Credit to Deano for having the bottle to take it under great pressure . Big responsibility for one of the less experienced players in the team Looked cool as a cucumber prior to taking it . Even when he had to re spot it he still remain calm. Buried it with aplomb. Pick that out Gunty Scumbag

Anyway he stood up to be counted when it mattered and for that he has to be commended . Hopefully the aftermath will go down as a big learning experience.

One to be forgotten for Deano more's the pity.

I don't think he really grasped the opportunity to show he should start every week, although as you say he was very cool up until actually striking the ball at the penalty.
He then suffered from an episode of what we professionals term "Going fcuking apeshit" and sadly suffered the consequences.

Clearly Mr Gordon WAS suffering from 'flu last week, and his knees were so weak that slight contact caused them to buckle for about four minutes.

I still hope Deano stays and fights for his place though.

Have to admit when i saw Deano was taking the penalty i put my head in my hands and didn't watch and was shouting out come on Deano please dont miss, but he scored and i was to busy celebrating to care about Gordon rolling about like he'd been shot.

I agree. Credit to Deano for taking a penalty under such massive pressure. Never even crossed my mind that he would miss. I was a bit surprised though too see him take it, would have expected Killen or Brown too take it. Shame about what happened after though. However I still think in the last two games he's showed enough to make JC keep him here. Lets just hope Collins feels the same.

Just got to say i think Sheils is a great player,but what was he thinking about?Cant say it cost us the game because we played just as well with ten men,but the momentum was with us.

If only football was about 'that penalty' or 'that game' or 'that bit of skill' but it's not it's about the complete package.

As always when it comes to the bigger games you struggle to remember if Shiels is playing and while his penalty was excellent his subsequent awful behaviour while out of character was an insult to the supporters and his team mates though wearilly 'it's all Gordon's fault' or 'the referee' or 'the linesman'.

It was Shiels fault for acting like a brain deid ned and giving all the rest of the principal chancers the opportunity to play act/or make the wrong decision.

Dean Shiels is an inconsistent type of player who is excellent to have in your squad but he isn't the sort of player who is going to become a ''mentally strong midfield general ooozing passion and desire''.

Next stop for JC though is to broaden the Hibs squad as yesterday's bench was full of Rub a Dub Dubs who were patently there just to make up the numbers and who are as yet completely unsuitable for a torrid Boxing Day Derby.

Zibby has been doomed for months but it's been a surprise how poor Martis and Jones have been recently but then there is no one remotely challenging them for their postions.A fit Killen remains a real asset but a fit or unfit Benji still needs 5 chances to convert one.

JC talks a great game and his teams are attack minded and tactically competent but his eye for a player will be his next real test as the defensive deficiencies of goalkeeper, defensive midfield and central defender cover are glaring.

Fair enough point.......... in hindsight.


When Killen scored he and another couple of Hibs players ran to get the ball out of the net but Gordon got there first and grabbed it, then turned his back to the game. All to waste some time with the Hibs boys desperate to get going again.

It was basically the same again with Deano, only they collided.


I think many players would have attempted to grab the ball quickly.

Quite so. That would have been a responsible tactic.

However, the players knew that the Gunts were there for the taking, and were desperate to do them.

I'm not saying it was right............... just understandable.

Its very understandable. If you look at it that way that we were on top, we had the upper hand, lets go for victory. But even without going at them gung-ho after we got it to 2-2, i think we would have beat them
