hibs games on xmas days
im pretty sure xmas day games were a regular feature until the 70s
any of the old bouncers ever go and see hibs play on xmas day? or bobby s etc could you rustle up some xmas day stats i know we played arsenal on xmas day and got horsed handsomely

yep, I was at the hun game. All over them for 89 minutes and they scored about 10 secs from the end then started to sing easy..easy. Totally heart breaking.

It was a Christmas Day match in 1909 when Hibs played Partick Thistle at Firhill on a frostbound pitch and goalkeeper Jimmy Main received fatal stomach injuries following a collision with a Thistle player. He died 4 days later.

Think Jimmy Main was a full back. He is buried in West Calder.A fairly big Celtic cross marks the spot,with IIRC,an inscription along the lines of "erected by Hibernian FC",together with the date.

untill the late 60s Christmas wasn't really that big a holiday in Scotland
while the English celebrated Christmas, we had the big celebration at New Year thus Jan 2nd was always a holiday in Scotland , while it never has been in England so if Dec 25th was a saturday, there was football |
