Collins set to drop stars as Celts join race to sign them

CELTIC last night officially moved to join Rangers at the front of the Christmas shopping queue for Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown - as relations between the pair and Hibs boss John Collins reached a new low.

Record Sport understands the Easter Road manager has threatened to axe both players for the Boxing Day derby against Hearts at Tynecastle following two days of furious bust-ups behind the scenes.

But, as the situation deteriorates, Celtic have made their move by slapping in an official note of interest in the midfielders.

Rangers did the same earlier this month when they made clear their intentions to bid for Scottish football's hottest properties when the transfer window opens next month.

Now their Parkhead rivals have done the same and Celtic's major shareholder Dermot Desmond is believed to have taken a personal interest in the swoop.

The Irish tycoon has become involved in the negotiations - a move which signals the strength of Celtic's desire to pip Rangers to the Easter Road stars.

Agree with you on the sell bit Paddy ,but i wouldn't bother ma arse if they end up in glesca. Sell to the highest bidder ,give JC some of the cash & i have no fears he will get players to do the job as he wants it done.

I know what you are saying mate , but its having a negative effect on everybody. The other players, the management & the support. If these two think they will be regular starters at rangers or celtic, then i for one would let them find out. For the sum of £6M of course.

Sell them in January (but not to Celtic or Rangers)...how the feck can the Huns afford both of our players, thought they just cleared so much of their debt so are they now willing to put it all back onto their club....As for Celtic we can charge them the full price for the pair (£14 Million) that will break their bank...

Collins said he expected Brown to return to training today, and denied suggestions from agent Willie McKay that both had already been told they were being dropped from the Boxing Day derby against Hearts.
