Still favourites?

Anyone still think we are favourites for the League Cup this season?
2 games against both teams in the other semi has resulted in 1 point from 12.
We seem to have a unpredictable time against Kilmarnock of late and the fact Falkirk have the beating of us I would be telling the press to stop mouthing Hibs off as favourites. Might then have a chance.

- the bookies and me.

Falkirk have had the rub of the green twice and killie are all over the place - granted we're still inconsistant (massivly) but we're still favourites and on merit....

On merit ? 1 point from 12 hardly backs that up

St Johnstone 3rd in the 1st

Falkirk we're two points ahead of thum despite us beating us twice and beating rangers.

Killie - no doubt about it best of the other three, but still humped by motherwell and beaten by dundee utd...so no great shakes either.

"On Merit" - we're the best of a bad bunch - thus we "merit" the title "favourite"

Aye but if we beat St Johnstone we'll play a team we struggle to beat , not Rangers or Celtic so league position counts for zilch imo

I was talking about league form opposed to league position - the position of falkirk shows there erratic nature, the position of killie hides some embarrassing defeats...

both not dissimiliar to hibs but we have players openly recognised as being of a higher calibre...

if we're not favourites then who is?

I can see why people make us favourites more than likely cos we are deemed the bigger club of the 4 and are quite capable of turning it on (but possibly just as capable of not doing it against Falkirk and Killie)
I hope we can win the bloody thing but i aint counting any chickens

Killie should be favourites.

Highest up the table out of the teams left and have took 4 out of 6 against us this season. People talk about their bad results but we have had our own terrible results (Falkirk home, St Mirren away).

Killie are overachieving.

However, with a tiny budget Mr Chip on the shoulder is doing a very good job..

Re: Still favourites?

Surely to God we should reach the final ? Only then should we worry about who the opposition is. O would also reckon by then Collins and Craig have sorted out the flaws in the squad (eg getting daft red cards; dodgy goalkeeping; pissing about with the ball when the simple pass will do; Maccock dupes etc.)

Re: Still favourites?

If Hibs fail to overcome St Johnstone at Tynecastle in front of 13,000 Hibs fans, they might as well chuck it for good. We could not have asked for a more favourable draw and venue for a national cup semi-final, and I would expect Collins and Craig to ensure that this team is prepared well and professional enough to do the job in hand.

Should we reach the final, I hope we play Falkirk. A Cup Final against Killie would be a nervy affair. The only good thing about would be that there would be no chance whatsoever of any complacency in the Hibs team. They would know they would be up against a decent team and would have to play at their best to win.

Going by the league performances and results so far this season, I would make Kilmarnock favourites for the League Cup. However, Hibs are well capable of beating them.

Let's just take care of St Johnstone first.

I know.

I would still be more optimistic about our chances of winning against them in a CF rather than against Killie though. Don't really know why, but I would just rather play them than Kilmarnock.

I agree with you.

Just think that we need reminding that any final will be a tough game.

Tougher than 1991..

Re: Still favourites?

I think if Hibs are favourites for this cup, it's only 'cos the other 2 play each other in the semi

If we get to the final, then depending on which one we get we may or may not be favourites (I reckon we'd still be favourites ahead of Falkirk, despite the 2 defeats this season, but not v Killie).

Either one would be a tough game (as will the semi) but as Hibs have a great knack of totally fecking up against 'easy' teams that may be no bad thing ....

If we'd had good results against either Killie or Falkirk this season I'd be more worried actually....

Re: Still favourites?

Cant see us hahsin it gainst the Saints. Good point to start the thread fi 7 though. Sounds like hes gettin nervous already and with the seasons stats against Killie an Falkirk maybe with right.

Maybe it would be worse if wed beaten them in the League - the Hibs are too unpredicatble in the last stages of the Cups - always been the same since I started goin in 79 - but Im still hink we'll do it with or without the Hungry two stars of the side.
