Neil Alexander
Out of contract in the summer and is looking for a move, I'd take him but would he come to us?
We could sign him on a pre-contract in January i believe and i doubt he's being paid that much at Cardiff...Even if we paid a fee in January i'm sure Cardiff would bite our hand off if they are going to lose him in the summer anyway To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. Re: Neil Alexander
As someone who has missed only 2 City home games this season and attended most home matches since moving here in Nov 04 I would have to say that I've been impressed with his form.
It seems obvious that Dave Jones would prefer someone else in that position and that Alexander would welcome a move. I'd be surprised if we could pay his wages though. Not that it should affect things but I'd heard (from an Edinburgh source) that he's a Jambo. Does anyone else know anything here? He'd certainly be the best keeper at ER since Andersson.

Re: Neil Alexander
Put it this way, he wasn't even included in the first team photo the other year and hardly played a game yet no noises of unhappiness were heard. That (given the Chuckle Brothers' current petulance) would suggest that he was on sufficient poppy that he was happy to sit around and do phuck all on the weekend.
Dave Jones has dispensed with most of the squad he inherited from Lennie Lawrence (though there had been a big clear-out with high earners like Kav going shortly before he arrived) and is a very single-minded manager. Given the way that both players and managers lie for a living (they do) the fact that both are quoted in both the Echo and the Western Mail (my employers and Cardiff's equivalent of the News and The Scotsman) waxing lyrical about how happy they both are with each other it would be no great surprise when the less powerful one leaves. That won't be Dave Jones.

Re: Neil Alexander
Agreed, re the omission from the photo, at the time we had heard that he would never play for them again. Something somewhere obviously changed. You are obviously more knowledgeable on Cardiff City than me Seven Tattoos, so wonder if it had something to do with injuries to the other goalies?

Re: Neil Alexander
KS - it was more to do with the fact that Lennie Lawrence finally got his head round the fact that Tony Warner is a keeper capable of consistent cock-ups of Zibbi-esque proportions. This, allied to some very poor results and the very real threat of relegation during the 2004-05 season and Martyn Margetson's advancing years led to Alexander's recall. A couple of good late results (wins over Reading and QPR) and a late Paul Parry equaliser at Gillingham (on the day we won 3-1 at Parkheed - seems a long time ago now!) kept the City up. Lawrence 'moved on' and the skint City board appointed Dave Jones who other clubs had treated as something of a pariah due to those unfounded child abuse allegations. Jones has a proven record with both Wolves and Southampton and long-standing City fans and the media alike are hailing the best football at Ninian Park since the days of Toshack, i.e. a long time ago.
Interestingly, former Scotland keeper George Wood was City's goalkeeping coach and left in mysterious circumstances in the summer. He now occupies the same role at Hartlepool and former Man City (and Wales) keeper Margetson fulfils Wood's old role. In fact, only yesterday Wood was quoted in the Echo describing Alexander as being the best keeper at Ninian Park during his 18 year stint at the club (he was goalie in Frankie Burrows's promotion winning side of 1987-88). I'll always be a Hibbie first and foremost but City have been my second team since the 89-90season and I like to see them do well. Put it this way, I'd rather be at ER on a Saturday but Cardiff is just too far away to come up on the day.

Re: Neil Alexander
ST ta for that. Generally keep a look out for their results as a result of Neil. Hope he has got better at claiming cross balls than in his school days though
