Bright or Average?

Just looking for opinions on whats going on at Easter Road right now regarding the following:
Is this team breaking up before we can have any success?

Can we sustain having a good squad and debt at the same time, and if so is this board member refusing to speculate just a little and perhaps playing a little to safe?

Out of contract players at the end of this season, feel free to add to the list:

Killen - a waste of £200k if he was to walk a the end of the season, Get this guy signed up now, In 3 weeks he can talk to other clubs and move for nowt.

Stewart - Hasn't been much said about his contract lately, If Brown and Thomson are to leave then signing this lad up on a longer contract is a priority. We have arguablly the best midfield in scotland and it seems like it is abandoning to go seperate ways.

Glass
Hogg
Morrow

Players on the books that will not break into the first team or add anything to what we have but are still picking up wages at Easter Road, Wages which could be used in other contracts such as Killen and Stewart above,

In my opinion anyway, we have:

Chris Hogg, Good back-up at best.
Gordon Marshall, Although he is a coach has anyone since any improvement since he replace Westwater? Infact the only thing that has happened is Simon Brown has had a "rumoured" bust up.
Morrow, Debatable because at time he looks like he can cut it followed up by times he looks like he would struggle at East Stirling.
Ally Brown, Time to say he isn't going to make the grade at Easter Road.
Baillie, See Ally Brown.
Kevin McDonald, See the two above.
Zibi, End off.
S.Brown, If he can't get a look in from Zibi, its says it all.

Then we have players who are looking for first team Football and maybe if Thomson and Brown are here until the end of the season might be to late:

Dean Shiels, An Excellent player whom I don't think will be happy at bagging 5/6 goals in his short goals to games ratio. Aberdeen are not a small club and they have expressed there interest through the media (extremely un-proffessionaly) and this could have alerted Deano.

Re: Bright or Average?

But then you have the positives.

We are 1 win off a champions league spot halfway through the season.

We are undefeated since we have replaced Mowbray.

We have a young squad.

We have a chance of silverware, without the Old Firm and Hearts in the competition.

We have a lovely stadium and attendances are up.

Since we depend on bringing in budget players or/mainly we rely on our youth policy and set up.

Up and coming youngsters: Possible replacements?

Lewis Stevenson - A replacement for Murphy when he moves on.
Ross Campbell - In the mould of Riordan/Miller.
Andy Gray - A goal Machine who is destined to bang them in for the Hibees.
Keigan Ayres - Canadian player of the year and still only 17.
Jamie Mcluskey - Midfield skills, Can he put them to proper effect and hurt teams or is his height and size a disadvantage.

The debt is down and will more than likely be gone when the likes of Thomson, Brown, Jones, Sproule, Whiattaker move on with all transfer sales adding up.

Does that leave us the platform to rebuild or does that bring us back to the start and we maintain having a well run, No adventerous board?

A brand new state of art (and our own) training complex, Can only help and attract players to Easter Road instead of going to other SPL/Championship clubs.

After Reading both posts you decided with your head and not your Heart is
the future bright, Or is the future average?

Re: Bright or Average?

John Collins is not stupid. Point about Killen in particular is good because i would like to see him sign for a couple of years. But if he doesnt i have more than enough faith in our new manager to get it right in the transfer market. I think people panick to much when players get linked to other clubs. We have got to remember both Rod Petrie, JC and Mowbray said we DO NOT have to sell any players to balance the books. If we had a bit more depth in paying wages, i think there would be no rumours about Brown and Thomson, also i think Riordan would still be playing football with us. I maybe beign over presumcious here but i am a little concerned that there is not enough young Scottish boys in our team when the groosome twosome leave though.
