Anyone remember Sieb Dykstra getting caught out with the rule and going bananas when we scored from the resultant indirect free kick.

Re: 6 second rule

It's six seconds and it's definitely still a rule.

In practice though, it's unlikely to be given unless there is a serious break of the rule. I've only ever seen it given once in a game and the 'keeper had the ball in his hands for 15 seconds.

I think Judas sold him to QPR when he took over from Wee Hamster Chops.

He was the goalie with the 1960's porn star look about him.
Apparently.

Quite entertaining in a daft goalie kind of way.

Re: 6 second rule

The official word is that is at the referee's discretion as to whether he feels the 'keeper is genuinly time wasting or not as a strict 6 second rule was causing too many inconsistancys

Re: 6 second rule

To clarify:
- officially the rule no longer exists as a period of time, it is 'unduly long - but in the region of 6 seconds or more'
- the keeper can simply throw the ball up in the air, pass it from hand to hand (ensuring it touches neither hand for an instant as he passes it to and fro) or bounce it and he is OK
- the old rule, about the number of paces the keeper can make, was phased out with catching the ball direct from a throw-in in 1996 (although notice Boruc did catch an Ivan Sproule throw from an injury on Sunday, and he was not penalised which in theory he should have been).
