Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

Tony was a great manager but i cant help thinkng that a lot of players he signed are not hibs quality eg.

Simon Brown
Sam Morrow
Chris Hogg
Antonio Murray
Amadou Konte
Paul Dalglish
Oumar Konde
Zibby Malkowski
Benji (the jurys still out)

When Tony came i think the true quality was already there in thomson, brown, riordan, whittaker and o'connor, and since o'connor and riordan have left we've definitly struggled

You forgot to mention all the good signings;

David Murphy
Rob Jones
Shelton Martis
Ivan Sproule
Mikey Stewart
Dean Shiels (Did Mowbry sign him, I can remember but I think he came in along with Morrow)
Zemmama

Out of your list;
Simon Brown - Agreed he's p1sh
Sam Morrow - Theres still a chance you might yet eat your words
Chris Hogg - More for the future than the now I would suggets
Antonio Murray - Quite liked what little I saw of him
Amadou Konte - Agreed the mali magician wasnt up to much.
Paul Dalglish - Not a bad stop gap signing at the time.
Oumar Konde - How can you vet him when he hasnt really had that much of a chance?
Zibby Malkowski -
Benji (the jurys still out) - I like benji (apart from those boots) and think he could turn out to be a great player for us.

Re: Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

For any manager not to realise the importance of having a good keeper is a massive flaw. Just think what we might have achieved over the past two years had Daniel Andersson remained at the club?

Pie in the sky I know but Zibi is a useless kant. And other that save in the first half at the Lodge what the feck has Golden Brown ever done?

Re: Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

Morrow never really got a chance because he was always stuck behind O Connor and Riordan (quite rightly) in the pecking order and he only got on when we were chasing the game or when it was won. Hogg will be a good player in two three years time hes only 21 so there is plenty of time. Murray was unlucky with injuries so we never really saw much of him, Dalglish never did anything wrong in his short time at the club and wasn't signed as a first choice starter anyway, Konde hasn't really had run of games but yes the others were duds. Don't forget Boozy on your list of good signings.

Re: Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

Zemmama - Free
Martis - Free
Shiels - Free
Killen - small fee
Benji - Free
Murphy - Free
Stewart - Free
Boozy - Free
Spoule - 5k

If you look at how much he has spent to bring in quality like that I'd say he's a bit of a miracle worker. We've got Mcneil and Keegan Ayres who Mogga brought who are two very promising youngsters. He signed a lot of shite but a lot of quality aswell.

Re: Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

You have to remember the market that Mowbray was working in. He had a scandalously low budget for a club which claims to be in the top 4 biggest in Scotland, and yet he managed to unearth some very good players. When you are operating in that market, you are bound to get some huddys as well as some good ones.

One of the reasons (not the main reason) Mowbray was so keen to leave IMO, was the lack of funds forthcoming in the last 2 or 3 transfer windows. I might be wrong, but I get the impression he was promised more than was eventually forthcoming.

Benji and Zemmama will be great players for us IMO. Can't understand for the life of me why Dean Sheils can't find a starting spot. Murphy, Boozy, and especially Sproule have been tremendous signing for next to nothing.

I doubt that. He came at a time when Rodders was quite clear about his priorities, and TM said on a number of occasions that he knew the score.
On the other hand, Mark Venus was quick enough to tell anyone who would listen that there was no money, hands were tied, etc etc. A bit of dignity from Mr Venus would not have been misplaced.
He was quick enough to 'take the applause' on his last date with the fans though.

the sam morrow that finished the season with livingston looked a player unlike the skinny runt that got the odd game for hibs at the start of the season but unless hogg grows about 6 inches he'll never be a centre half and that aint going to happen

Re: Mowbray great manager but signings not so great

so basically for every shite player mowbray signed he signed a good one... no 2 bad.
konte, simon brown, malkowski & hogg definatly not good enough.
never saw enough of murray
big oumar konde looks decent
dalglish did a job at the time
morrow can still prove himself
boozy - class
deano, murphy, martis, zemmama & stewart for free - outstanding
sproule - ever improving
killen - great strike rate since coming to hibs
jones - good buy
plus signed up broony, thommo & whitty on long term contracts.
mowbray done well & left the club in a good state although its time to forget about him now and get behind Collins so we can push on to the next level.
