Very disappointed. A huge missed opportunity.

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

Agree, very dissapointed.
We cant possibly challenge for Europe with 3 strikers, 1 of which is injured more than he is fit, 1 is an unproven moroccan, and the other isn't an out-and-out striker.

Plus a pish poor goalie and very little cover. Not good enough Hibs.

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

Agreed.

I wouldn't have minded Hibs moving for Daryll Duffy of Hull, ex Falkirk.

But we need a goalie SO BAD it's unreal!

Seems that there were a lot of apparent moves to get players out over the past few weeks.. Was this required in order to release funds to the manager?

Since the end of last season we've lost a huge goal threat in Riordan and a reasonable threat in Dalglish and we've not replaced either.

I can't say because i don't know. Do you?

What i Do know is that Petrie said the budget was going to be increased with more investment and the Manager said he wanted to sign a Forward.

Neither has happened and after the Manager said he wanted to sign a Forward as we were light in that position we then proceeded to let Dalglish go..

Whilst holding onto donkeys like Konte. When two from Jones, Konde and Martis are injured, who plays centre half? Its clear we are lightweight up front, we should have sorted it out.

Greenmachine will become famous soon enough
Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

Extremely disappointed and very annoyed.

For Hibs to be facing the season with only three recognised strikers who are by no means regular goalscorers is frankly a disgrace for a club like Hibernian. For months the manager and the board have known that we were short of striking options, and yet next to nothing has been done about it. Even a club like Aberdeen, who are apparently on their knees financially and are having to sell their stadium to survive, have managed to secure a proven SPL goalscorer.

Despite all the managers talk about getting in an O'Connor type striker, we have managed to get no-one. I'm sorry, past experience as a Hibs fan has shown me that if you don't at least try to replace a quality striker, then it's downhill all the way.

I hope I am wrong, but securing a top 6 place is going to be an achievement in itself this season. You need regular goalscorers in your team to win games. IMO we will struggle for goals this season.

Sorry for the pessimism, but I am really pissed off just now.

5k to 150k is a gentle increase it could be argued. Dont get me wrong I'm dissapointed with the outcome and could surely have spent more but we cant possibly start pointing fingers at the board yet.

Mogga had a forward on trial but sent him home and that was that was the last we heard of Mogga ever looking at a forward. Is Powell on a free because if he is perhaps Mogga knows he can sign him anytime

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

F*cking disgraceful from Hibs. A 20-goal-a-season striker leaves and we dont replace them??? How do you improve a team on that basis?
Total pish.

Benji is unproven, Fletcher isn't an out-and-out striker, and Killen might as well be in the ERI for the forthcoming season. konte doesn't even count, before anyone starts.

Even if all 3 were good and fully fit, it is still not enough. Maybe a bit early to be saying this, but IMO we have NO chance of Europe next season with 3 strikers who are unproven and permanently injured.

Shocking.

For a club in our financial position (We're no as bad as a lot of others - before i get the 'We're millions in debt and should be indebted to Rod Petrie and Sir Tom Farmer' bollocks..) with our support base it's a ridiculous situation.

Transfer window is closed. Since it opened Caldwell, Riordan, Smith & Dalglish have all gone. In has come Jones, Zemmama & Martis. Okay we've replaced the Defenders but the Forwards?

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

Mogga has known for half of last season and all summer that he had to replace all those goals and done absoloutly nothing about it except for Powell who obviously was nowhere near good enough or a trial wouldnt have been needed.

I certainly dont see evidence of the increased investment but as pissed off as we all are to be going into the season so light we could atlease wait to hear what Mogga has to say.

Lets remember what has got us to where we are and thats our youth system. And whats to say Mogga doesnt see our next big striker at the club already. More money should have been spent but nobody here knows the reasons why it hasnt.

I had read previous posts before I started waffling. It's a bad habit I know.

I still don't see the missed opportunities though.
I think Duffy was mentioned............... was that the opportunity?

If TM didn't see anyone who fitted the bill then it's not a missed opportunity in my book.
Like everyone else I'd like to strengthen up front and get better support at the back. Even Mrs Shrink agrees.

But if there is nothing available then that's that. Why sign players who won't strengthen the team? I don't know...........ask Vlad.

Who exactly is the missed opportunity?

Or is it all relative.....................

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

More could and should have been done to strengthen the areas that are painfully obviously needing strengthened. I'd place a decent bet on McNeil being our regular keeper by the time of the next transfer window which is a massive gamble which might turn out to be good, but might end up completely fecking his career. We're a sending off and a slight knock away from having to blood youngsters in massively important games up front. Considering that Killen is one of those strikers we are relying on to stay fit that's not so much a gamble as a kamikaze mission.

The squad as it stands is not well constructed. We have an overabundance of midfielders, almost enough defenders, nowhere near enough strikers, and a liability in goals with his back up a completely untried teenager.

This squad with O'Connor, Riordan, Ian Murray, and Daniel Andersson would absolutely walk the league. For say £15k a week (or £750k a year) total, they would most likely all still be here if they believed they were at a club which was serious about challenging for trophies. We aren't, and under the current ownership never will be. The window of opportunity is closing rapidly for this current generation, which is the best that Hibs have had in my 32 years, as they get sold off a bit at a time, and it could be a long time before we get this chance again.

Re: "We'll Increase The Budget Gently" - Bollocks.

The 'Missed opportunity' is not specific to any one particular player..

The 'Missed opportunity' is a team that is only a poacher and half decent keeper away from being able to put up a real challenge for the third position.

I wouldn't have thought with your credentials that would have been a terribly difficult diagnosis?

You seem to imply that there is some deliberation on the part of Hibs NOT to improve the squad. Or that they simply failed to take advantage of some available player(s) who would round off the team.
My point, which obviously I have failed to make, is that TM is quite aware of the shortcomings of the team but could not locate anyone who would fill these gaps.
I don't see that as a 'missed opportunity'.

It's a shame.

And I would have liked to see a great new keeper and a Gary O stand in................

but sadly there was no 'opportunity' to fill the positions (other than with likes of Stevie Crawford
