There will soon be a new face at Easter Road - Darlington's Dutch defender Shelton Martis has agreed to join Hibs. The 23 year-old centre-half was watched by Tony Mowbray playing against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night - he's turned down a two-year deal with the League Two side in favour of a move to Easter Road. The Dutchman is under the age of 24 so a tribunal will decide the fee.

Good news this. We now have four central defenders who will all have a part to play during the course of the season. Martis certainly sounds like he is exactly what we are looking for in that area. It's the step up to the SPL which is the biggest concern, but Mowbray must feel sure he can do it.

If we can bring in a new striker and/or a defensive midfielder before the end of August then the manager will have done well with his very limited budget.

Agree it is a step up, but by the sounds of it he is one of the top centre backs in that league. Same could be said of Jones but so far Id say hes looking more than good enough

Probably not, right enough. A striker with a decent goalscoring rate would be a much better acquisition

I still dont feel this is good enough - lost 2 of the SPL's Top strikers/forwards and they as yet havent been replaced have 2 or 3 central midfielders whom are either useless/always injured - i fail to see how this is good business - possibly a step in the right direction. I feel dundee utd have got better ideas trying to get black and proctor from Caley thistle 2 players whom i believe were on Hibs' books at one point i think those 2 would be fantastic additions and they are apparently being bid with mere buttons.

Reading elsewhere it is apparantly a done deal according to the stv Hibs sports page and he even has a squad number. If true what is the score with the official site? Day before an important game a good bit news with regards to a new signing would go down a treat for the folk travelling up North the morn.
