Hibernian Set to Sign Moroccan Striker

Hibernian Football Club today confirmed that it had cleared another obstacle in signing Merouane Zemmama (23).

The Moroccan attacking midfield player has been training at the Club for a month and has agreed a five year deal.

The Club has now been advised that it will receive a Work Permit for the player despite his lack of appearances for the Moroccan international side. The signing of the player is expected to be completed within the next few days.

Good news. Certainly five years is a sign of faith and confidence. let's hope the guy can cut on the park the way that has been suggested and indeed is the "new" Zidane.

As I said on a thread on sunday... I saw Benji in the shop Republic in the St James Mall. He was with two other Morrocans. Both Looked like football player's ... athletic etc

Hopefully we can make it official and get the work permit through etc before the Killie game. Since he has been training for a month he should be up to speed and able to play if put on the books in time

Some of us find great fault in the clubs ambition at times but given out a 5 year deal is highly brave and ambitious. Credit to the board.

Lets hope he's no Mark McGraw or Billy Findlay though...

A theory I have read in the "other place" is that they have to give the Morroccans long contracts because it helps to obtain the work permits.

Unless the player on the long contract is an absolute dud it's beneficial for everybody concerned!

Nice to see a signing, but I'd prefer a centre forward ala Mixu/Brewster instead to supplement Chris 'Achilles' Killen

Forgot to say, one of our more favourite sons of Hibernian rates this guy extremely highly.Similiar in build to McCluskey, but slightly taller and 'built like a brick shit house'.Skilful,great shot,very accurate but also very greedy.He says if he can start to pass the ball, we've got an absolute diamond.

Yes, but there is higher risk involved.

1. If the player turns out bad, then the club is stuck with him, or has to offer a payoff.

2. These players aren't exactly proven. As far as I know, neither Benji nor Zemama have played in a European league before. TM is pretty much going on what he has seen in training exercises alone.

Okay, that sounds intriguing.

Per wikipedia, Morrocoo were knocked out in the group of the 2004 Olympics on goals scored by Costa Rica.

Hope there is more signings to follow.. cant wait to see this guy.. he will still need time to adapt to our league mind.. just like Benji before everyone starts slating him in a couple of months as seems to be the norm when some new players have a dip in form..
