Combinations which dinnae work
Sproule and Whittaker on the right, Thomson & Stewart in the middle of the park.
Whittaker is not great defensively, I think we can all accept that. If he is playing there with Sproule in front of him he gets absolutely no cover at all. A choice has to be made about which one plays regularly because playing both them simply doesn't work. Sproule imo still doesn't have the same impact on a game when he starts as when he comes off the bench. Thomson & Stewart both try to play in exactly the same position doing exactly the same job. If one of them sits and the other tries to get forward that's fine, but the only one who appears to have the level of fitness to do this is Thomson, and you can't ask someone to be a defensive midfielder when they continually have to be getting up to support the forwards with no break. Drop Stewart and if we play 5 in midfield play Boozy, Brown, and Thomson, or Glass instead of Brown with Brown on the right instead of Sproule. If both of those things are not changed for next Saturday, we won't be picking up three points from our first league game.
