As you all know Gary singed for Cowdenbeath.
In the EEN tho. TM hints that he did not offer him a new deal because he wanted to move into coaching?

Mowbray actually had to reject a request from the veteran defender to help former team-mate Mixu Paatelainen last season but, now he has severed his ties with Easter Road, Smith will become a player/coach with the Fife outfit.

From those of you at Kilmarnock with us bouncers. Gary Smith looked like he wanted to stay on at Hibs. When we were chanting 1 more year he tried to get the rest of the crowd going!

Is Tony lying to us here?

Good luck to gary hes been a great servant to Hibs but thought he was getting a bit old and clumsy (never fancied him in the derbys) i dont think TM is lying to us , why would he?

Have to disagree, thought for a great part of last season he was one of our most reliable players when he was playing.

Agree totally.

There seems to be a trend of questioning TM's integrity and honesty these days.
I'm not sure that he deserves such cynicism.
And I'm a huge cynic.

i thought smith wanted to stay, why would he want to go to a team with less quality, and get less money? why didn't hibs jsut give him a coaching role though, could help our terrible defence !!!

perhaps because we didn't have a coaching job for him and we needed to free up the money to sign another defender, cannae just go making up jobs that don't exist and you seem to forget he was part of that terrible defence although most of the errors in any partnership were Celtwell's fault and those will disappear with him.

we were paying him anyway, so why not just give him the coaching part, he couldnt have been getting that much, and im sure would have taken less to stay as he is an experienced player who could help a young defence IMO

agree wholeheartedly with that, thanks to Gary for his time here, a great servant to the club in his time here but as you say time to move on.

Gary Smith may well have wanted to stay at ER but it appears he wanted coaching responsibilities which TM couldnt give him.

Also it is irrelevant what the player wants because if the manager doesnt want him then he cant stay

I extremely doubt Mowbray was lying. I would have loved to have seen Gary move into the background staff at Hibs but it isn't as easy as that.
