Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
Assuming Mowbray is not offered a job in the Premiership this summer, it looks like he will be around for a season at least.
At that point the training facility will be available. The young guys will no longer be young guys, each having played around 100 games for Hibs. Assuming our 20,000 regular and occasional punters don't desert the club, the coffers should continue to overflow. Everything points to a rosy future. Inevitably (but hopefully not now) players will be moved on for decent piles of wonga. Between transfer fees and profitable operation, more and more money will be made available to the manager to improve the team. In short, we're on the start of a roll. Unfortunately, due to the timing, I can't see Mowbray being the main beneficiary in all this. Rather, he is the man that has started the club on this path, and will leave some legacy behind him. However, the next guy up after Mowbray is going to be coming into a helluva job and a helluva club. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. I thought that TM would turn down the Ipswich job and continue his steady improvement and development of the the club. With the training facility and Tony's involvement with it I can see the man seeing out his contract.

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
I can see Mogga being here for the remaining 2 years, after which I am certain the club will be in a much better situation, financially, and with regards facilities(hopefuly leaving the East untouched). That makes us a much more attractive prospect for new managers, and hopefuly Mogga will help in that area aswell.
Would Mark Venus stay and make the step up to manager with Hibs if Mogga moved on To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
I doubt Mogga or the likes of Brown, Thomson, Whittaker, Murphy will get the chance to use the new training centre. I think this is our final season with these players. The good thing though is that we have a lot of promising player coming through and with both the first team and the youngsters able to train at the one place it can only be good for bringing them through for the step up to the first team. The board have done brilliantly to get us the biggest facility in Scotland but imo it has come just a bit too late for this group of players and management.

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
Perhaps the best effect from Tony's legacy will be the fact the board cannot just 'settle' on a managerial candiate and hoist on us some pathetic retread. There is a level of expectation, and deliverance of this expecation at Easter Road. One they have to live up to as well.

I know he's no happy about midfield, but he did cost us a lot of goal's last season at the back. Hope not, I still think he's up for it. Just needs to stop trying so hard and think a wee bit more about making so many runs up the park. But then again with a fully fit midfield he would have to go back to R/B and could let Boozy, Brown, Sproule, and Deano make the runs. Did I just talk (type) myself out of that ? Hibernian football club Building for the future On May 22rd 2006, Hibs announced they had secured 36 acres of land to build a training complex. [5] The facilities are to be built on a farm in East Mains, a 20 minute drive from Easter Road. The complex will be called the 'East Mains Training Centre'. The site will include: Up to 10 full size grass pitches Specialist training areas (eg goalkeeping) Gym Changing facilities A treatment area An indoor short-sided synthetic pitch Players lounge Coaches’ rooms The project is said to cost the club £3m. Hibs will be one of a few clubs in Scotland to have their own facilities, the others being Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and Ross County. Tony Mowbray has repeatedly complained about the poor quality of facilities the club has at their disposal, as they are currently using public areas in Edinburgh and Musselburgh. The centre is said to be completed by pre-season of the 2007-2008 season, and is expected to receive planning permission soon. And got it.......:YAYYY: |

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
I just hope we dont (If King Mogga leaves) end up with a Bobby Williamson type, boring play manager! And end up back on the slippery slope to 6th or under position

I think the newest crop of youngsters has looked extremely promising so hopefully when we do get a new manager, he can try and do a wee bit of a better job of keeping them at the Leith San Siro!! |

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
It's hard to see how the 'training academy' is going to bring through any more quality young players than the current crop of O'Connor,Riordan, Thomson,Fletcher and Whittaker. That is quite exceptional in such a short period of time and especially for Hibs who have always had this myth about them that they produced quality young players when in fact the 70 's, 80's and early 90's where era's bereft of talent with the extremes of John Collins or Davie Farell and 'the Dempsie Dumplings'.

I see the training ground as something that will develop young players but also allow experienced players to train and practice in a controlled and modern enviroment. I can't see it matters whether 'Tony' benefits or not as he doesn't plan to stick around for long and why should he. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. He has now proved he is a very good manager,he has shown real loyalty by turning down Ipswich and he can move on at will when the offer he is looking for comes through. The one big drawback to Hibs future though is something they have no control over and that is 'Romanov' as Hibs fanbase can't grow significantly if Hearts are succesfull. Floating football fans want success and they will support Hearts if succesfull and if you are new to football, new to the city or just wanting a one off game then you will be attracted to a team that is winning and challenging. The good thing though is that these fans are fickle and if it all goes into a spiral decline at Hearts then no one wants to be associated with a bankrupt club in freefall hence whichever way it falls, I'd conclude that the 'Romanov legacy' is as vital to Hibs as it is to Hearts.

Re: Who's going to get most from the Mowbray legacy?
Sam, I personally know of two Hibs-daft laddies who chose to sign for Hertz than Hibs simply because of the superior facilities at Riccarton, and I'm sure more will have gone elsewhere for that very reason.

There is though the issue of 'getting a game' as it's not going to be easy for any young Scottish player break into the Hearts first team. Tony as manager deserves the credit for the last few years of progress but he inherited Sauzee, Mcleish and 'Boaby's young players all of whom were blooded very early sometimes before their time. Hibs played with what was really an Under 21 team and knocked Larsson and Celtic out of the league cup which was probably the best example of young players being given a chance and Kevin Thomson was able to say to the SKY Sports Interviewer who asked if if that was his best goal for Hibs? 'Actually it is my only goal for Hibs. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
