heard from a very good source about a week ago that jay sheilds has signed a new contract but the club have told him to keep it quiet.. dunno why

Stephen Glass signed two weeks before he did and was told to keep quiet...

FWIW i am not convinced the signing of Jay Shields is a good move.

He's only had a handfull of games, I would give him more time to gel / settle, would give him another year, He was on loan at Berwick at the start of the season, suppose that shows you how much Mowbray rated him then, was obviously nowhere near the first team, but funny how things work out.

I think Jay's attitude has been first class, and he shows great committment during a game. However, I don't think the manager is convinced by him, because I don't think TM likes ball-winners. I think he likes players who are comfortable on the ball, and can play a wee bit. Jay is a wee terrier who tackles hard, and gives everything. He is a good option to have next season, but like Glass, I don't think he will be a regular first team player next season.

Agree, I think that with a full squad fit he would struggle to get on the bench. Could be a very good squad player.

I think he is playing well and deserves his new deal. He's showed he wants to play for Hibs and IMO his height is not an issue. He has not put a foot wrong since coming in.

I should have better things to worry about but I don't so..........why the fuck are the club extending contracts and keeping it quiet for weeks? The extension for Glass only came out cos he blurted it out by mistake in an interview and now Shields is being told to keep it quiet?! We're the only club I've ever heard of wanting to keep this sort of stuff quiet.
