Seven Tattoos is on the way to a first team debut
On This Day In History

Sat 26/04/86 Motherwell 3-1 Hibs Att. 2,369
Absolutely p!sh end of season clash at Fir Park. I grew up in Strathaven and Motherwell are the local premier team but most people in the town are bluenoses. My brother and I were actually taken to this game by a Well suporting friend of my Dad's and stood in the home end behind the goal (where the Davie Cooper Stand now is). Crawford Baptie (one of those no more than average players who always seemed to score against us) put them a goal up just before the break, Stevie Cowan equalised after about 62 mins, and then predictably inept Hibs defending gifted them two quick goals shortly after. This was the quintessential end of season game, as Grant (ma bro) remarked 'there wasn't any singing all game'.

Interestingly, though a certain Celtic Football Club beat Dundee 2-0 at Parkheed and hertz, who I think we'd all accepted were gonnae win the league, only defeated Clydebank 1-0 at Swinie. This was the game that Mercer gained much publicity about because the away end (the Gorgie Road terracing) would be open to the hertz support for the first time since segregation had been introduced. You shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but Mercer was a human being I did not like one iota during his existence and it sickened me then (as a 14 year old) and it sickens me now that something as insignificant as opening the away end to the home support against a team whose away support could have fitted on a Grifter merited media coverage.

Anyway, that failure to beat the Bankies (they lost six to the SSBs the following Saturday) by a goal avalanche would cost them dear! Ha ha evil Hibbie laugh!

Saturday 26/04/97 Dunfermline 1-1 Hibs
After appointing Duff Jimmy we steadily edged our way to the relegation play-offs. Jackson got our equaliser.

Saturday 26/04/03 Dundee Utd 1-2 Hibs
After being a goal down a Tam McManus penalty (he celebrated by doing a lap dance on the corner flag, humourless Boaby the Joaby subsequently fined him) and a late Ian Murray goal after an absolute feck up by their keeper gave us a rare win. This was a post-split game and, working at The Balfour as I did on Saturday nights in those days I spent the afternoon in Droothy Neebors trying to get ma hole oaf a radge South African burd. Nailed her the following week! CCS!
