Finances

Any guesses as to what this season will have done to the current financial state of Hibs?

Given that we made a small profit last season, crowds are up, we haven't done worse in the cups (and should have made a decent whack from the game at Ibrox), we should have made a decent wee bit of dough from the European game (must have been close to £300-350k from the home game + tv cash), plus the money from the O'Connor sale, and I doubt the wage bill has went up much if at all, will we have cleared a decent bit from the debt? Should be somewhere between £2-3m I would imagine

That would translate as a reduction on the operating costs of the debt of somewhere between £100-300k a year.

That would be a reduction of about a quarter of our overall debt if my guesstimates are right. That's no bad imo, but I do wonder if we could have maybe had a better season on the park, and financially, if we had maybe accepted a lower bid for Garry O in the summer rather than taking it when we did...

I know. I just can't help thinking that we might be a lot closer to third and he would have caused Hearts a lot more problems in the semi than we did. This season it makes sense, if next season we aren't in Europe it might look a bit less of a wise decision.

Can never be sure if it is this season or next that the 500k -600k p/a repayments on the stands start. Vaguely remember reading that these payments had been rescheduled but not sure for how long. If we'd wiped off £100-£300 k off the operating costs of the debt this year that would suggest we still have to find overall savings of another £200k plus p/a. Bit of a headache unless we sell a Brown or Thommo for a similar fee to Garry O next season.

Garry O didn't make that much odds in the other 2 humpings we've had off the minging ones

Plus they couldn't really foresee how bad the injury situation would get when Garry was sold.

I would think the wage bill will have gone up over last season as a whole thanks to the new contracts which are bound to be on better terms. Probably won't start the new season any higher though as Garry O, Caldwell, possibly Glass will be off the books.

Be interesting to see how they play it over the summer in terms of debt reduction versus investment.

Realistically though, how could we stop a young guy from earing a million quid a year?

If we had done, what message would that send out to any young guy thinking of sgning a long contract wth Hibs?

I know. I just really really wish there could have been a way to delay it for 3 months.

Would'nt have made a slight bit of difference to the semi mate , we were well humped.

It's on a par with , " would we have won the scottish cup in 2001 if the ginger judas had'nt fell out with latapy ?"

We really weren't. The keeper made a total canute of the second goal, and neither side looked very likely to score at that point. I'm not saying we would have won if O'Connor was playing but I do think we would have been far more likely to score either the equalizer or first goal. If that had happened I certainly don't think they would have went on to score 4, and it would have changed the game.
