reasons to be cheerful
It seems to me that while we're all obviously gutted after the semi, some of the backlash is overlooking a key point. That is; if we hold onto 4th place, the perennial cup disappointment apart, we are achieving as much as can be realistically expected.
There is a cruel irony, that perhaps colours our perspective; that is, after two decades of the yams being relatively more successful than ourselves, the emergence of the core of our current side signalled (at least to me) that it was our turn. That was of course pre-Romanov. But the galling fact has of course been, that just when we find ourselves in this position, said Jam Tsar appears, with the result that hearts start spending at levels unprecedented outside the OF, and thus once again gain the upper hand. This spending has allowed them to leapfrog ourselves, and that is the reason why we face (at best) dropping a position this year. In short, and provided we fall no further, we have in my view maintained our position rather than gone backwards, and it's the unprecedented and unsustainable behaviour at tynecastle that has changed the overall picture. I said when romanov arrived that I thought all his dosh would amount to no more than a more emphatic claim to third spot than has been the case in previous years. This is what I still believe will happen, in a season where I believe we have the weakest champions in my lifetime and the weakest old firm collectively, since the power of money began to assert itself on both side of the divide in the bunnet era. In short, reasons to be cheerful: 1. Hibs - while there are things about the team that need addressed are still, IMHO, the best non-OF team operating on a sustainable basis. 2. We have only been displaced by a hearts outfit that is operating on a premise that is not sane; that is accelerating their perilous financial position, that despite the spending, has failed to prevent (I think I'm right in saying) the earliest achievement of a championship since the SPL began, that is unlikely to get as golden an opportunity to compete with the OF again. 3. While hearts may well bag the cup having avoided both rantic along the way, I don't think that kind of haul will satisfy romanov going forward, and when the realisation sets in that that's his lot, I feel the end will be within sight on the other side of town. This of course leaves the very uncheering reality of the unassailablity of the OF. But that is just something that has to be lived with, and not the yardstick against which to measure ourselves. PS - of course if we drop below 4th I withdraw all of this and demand that heads must roll To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Re: reasons to be cheerful
maybe ending 3rd last season was a season too soon? When TM arrived, a top 6 finish in itself would have been good. The fact that we finished 3rd, raised expectations for this year just that bit higher, though injuries allowing, I feel we could have been looking at 3rd again

And the sooner the twisted, paranoid, bigotted delusionists reach oblivion, the better IMO.

Man you must be good at the typing and have a slack job but you get my vote for poster of the year! My additional thoughts on the overall position are :- that we are solvent; we have the most respected human being in the league as manager and he is pledged to the traditional "attack minded football" loved by all Hibee fans; we have the best attacking midfield duo signed up longterm-Broony and Thommo obviously We have also signed up Murph who just gets more and more impressive. Thats plenty to be happy about

Top post. It is clear as daylight that we have put in top seasons since the relegation and improved dramatically every year.

Re: reasons to be cheerful
Good post, that was as reassuring as a nice cuppa.
I'm not paying much attention to Hearts anymore- just a bit of a circus really, and I can't help feeling they are courting maximum publicity at all times just for the sake of it. P |

Re: reasons to be cheerful
Yes but I think it is deceptive to look at other teams. If we have improved or done as well as last year it would be reflected in our points tally, goals scored and conceded.
P W D L F A Pts 38 18 8 12 65 57 62 33 16 4 13 56 45 52 I know it is not an exact comparsion but we still have to win our next four games to improve on last seasons tally. Given the injury problems we have had the squad hasn't done too badly. The cup will however be the big disappointment from this year. On the plus side the team is getting older and wiser, but on the minus side where are those 60 odd goals going to come from?
