What do you think of the UEFA Cup?

Personally, I love the UEFA Cup. It has to be one of the most underrated, over-looked competitions in football. It actually appeals to me a bit more than the Champions League, mainly because I think it has a more interesting range of teams. Plus Hibs have more chance of doing well in the UEFA Cup than in the Champions League! What does everyone else think?

It's our most realistic achievable goal every season so we've got to love it when we get there so I do like the tournament when i have an interest (i.e. Hibs) in it.

From an armchair neutral point of view tho, it's not a patch on the Champions League. I can't say I watch many UEFA cup games on the telly, but I always seem to watch the 8 screen on Sky Champions League!

Used to love the old uefa cup format but it's been a bit of a mickey mouse cup in more recent years, you used to get the 2nd and 3rd best teams from all the leagues in it but now they're in the champs league more often than not. the issue of it being a financial safety net for champions league losers is its biggest flaw.
the group stage has robbed the tournament of a bit of its excitement too.

I like the Uefa cup, Some good teams and can potentially bring some big teams to ER.

Sums it up for me really.
No real players (in the club sense) want anything to do with it. eg - even madvlad romanob is desperate for the champ league! Thats were the cash is. It was a good competion, with a much higher standard, when there were less teams in the European Cup.

exactly dude!

in a way it's been monopolised like the CL, IE the group stages make it less likely that a smaller club will progress further as they don't get the leveller of playing wholly knockout games, thus ensuring the usual suspects are gauranteed a certain ammount of cash, even if they play mince in their group matches.

av got 2 say am not the eufa cups biggest fan and i feel the teams in it are way below standard for european competition and as you's said its no champs league
