One way we are better than Hearts!

...and it'll probably please Rod Petrie:

Hibs must be on course for a profit this season and shifting a fair chunk of debt.

By contrast, Hearts must have a wage bill 3 times ours despite being fundamentally the same size of club.

I don't think Romanov is out to asset-strip Hearts, but even he will realise soon enough that he cannot keep throwing money into a bottomless pit.

Hearts might make £500,000 from the cup final- probably not enough even to pay the compensation bill for the various people they've sacked this season.

A club that was already mired in debt is now paying out 100% (maybe more) of its income in wages.

How long can they continue doing that for?

Unfortunately for us they are doing this at a time when we might have hoped for a fair crack of the whip.

I have no particular bitterness, but am certainly hoping Rangers catch them now and end this nonsense.

Celtic have 3 times Hearts wage bill (9 times ours), and always will have. This is HMFC's best chance of the CL- I can't see them competing with the OF next year.

The unfairness is that that they get to enjoy even this season while we continue to cut our cloth.

Re: One way we are better than Hearts!

A fairly asute assesment there. Its come at the wrong time for both Hibs and Hearts. We could have guarenteed ourselves European football this year had their guarentor not come along when he did. A bad time for the Yams, as had it been 10 years ago then it would have left them in an ideal position, but current market trends dictate that the money doesn't exist at any level of the game nowadays.

Re: One way we are better than Hearts!

Why not look at it this way - in terms of league position anyway - if Hearts drop down to 3rd (which looks more than likely I would say) and we finish 4th, coupled with them winning the cup (yeah I know, a bitter pill to swallow) then they will have got out of the season - in league terms - pretty much the same as us. We would both be in the Uefa cup, whilst in order to do so they had hugely increased their debt, just as we may have cut ours.

Re: One way we are better than Hearts!

Love Rominov keeping chucking money at Hearts and sacking managers etc, as we will see the reward in a couple years time when he finally understands what hearts spend he OF will more than match and he decides to leave hearts up shit creek.

Maybe some sucess now but in the long run it will be us that are laughing.

God ill miss Derby days when our rivals are livingston or spartans.

So answer this visiting Yam.

Is the debt now less or more since the start of the season?

With all the loan deals etc we do not know what Hearts are paying for. There is no transparncy. It is about time the SFA looked at the financials. The SFA are tin pot generals with rules for this and that. They seem to have little interest in sound financial stewardship. Surely there ought to be a cap on players wages not exceeding a club's income. It does mean in the end chicken's will come home to roost whilst in the short term it means there is not a level playing field.

The yams can enjoy their day. Over the long term if I were a yam I would be very afraid. Still when it goes belly up at least we will know it could not happen to a nicer bunch of folk.

Re: One way we are better than Hearts!

I would not like Hibs to be owned by an unstable guy like Romanov, he is too unpredictable. Hearts cannot sustain their current level of expenditure in the long run, and it will be interesting to see what happens.

Having said that, I'm sure the Hearts fans couldn't give a toss who is running their club as long as they are winning. The last thing they will be thinking about as Pressley lifts the Scottish Cup, will be possible future problems with the clubs finances.

We've all suffered this weekend, a real sare one, but its nothing like the pain the gunts are going to feel when their fairymafios does them over, loses intrest whatever. We've lost a big game, it's happend before will happen again. They are in a position that on the whim of one rather strange man they could lose their ground, name, history the whole fuckin lot. Glad to be a Hibbey.

To be honest, they will regret Romanov ever having anything to do with their club. He will spend money expanding Tynecastle, then sell it for a lot more money than it's worth now. Will probably then sell the club...

Hearts will be ruined if this unpredictable lunatic stays...

Re: One way we are better than Hearts!

There's no way Romanov can make money out of Hearts. He can buy popularity, influence and some football success, and is indeed doing so. But I can't imagine he'll spend every last rouble chasing Celtic and Rangers.

They might make it the odd season, but year after year it's difficult to compete with Celtic's £30m plus wage bill.

He's been quite cute with the financing and the various loan deals, but the reality is that Hearts income has not kept pace with its spending- and it was already on the brink before this.
