All this scab picking, wound licking, navel gazing and implosion is understandable and natural to a very large extent (I wonder at the timing of the airing of alleged player-manager relations though )

However, we still have a European spot to play for and as long as that is a possibility we need to concentrate on doing our (Hibs') bit to make it happen. We need the revenue and the morale boost and, despite it looking a very long shot in the dark shadows of yesterday's debacle starring Mr Bean the Goalie and assorted artists, we need to regroup and take this season to the last day (and by that I mean the Cup Final, as the result may be crucial to our participation in the Uefa Cup).

As long as the Hun finish second, the outcome of the Scottish Cup Final will determine whether 4th place is a Euro spot iirc. Should our charming neighbours beat Gretna as anticipated then 4th place is very much all to play for.

Win on Wednesday, then it is very much game ON for 4th place.

The bigger picture is very much that Hibs' NEED the revenue and excitement and REWARD of European football. Yesterday especially and a couple of other games aside, we deserve not to end this season "empty handed".

We have to push right to the line as a club - fans, manager and players - to ensure we have done all WE can to allow other factors to do their "worst".

If we let wound licking and speculation derail our club in that pursuit - and because of that see Killie in Europe instead of us - then we will regret it long term on more than one front.

All those who are leaving us in the summer should have the professional pride to push to the line, all those who stay have much much to gain from further Uefa football.

Feel hurt, aye. But let's not lose sight of the remaining glimmers and the bigger picture.

I thought if the Yams finish 2nd ( maybe not with the Huns gaining ground ) and win the Cup, Gretna get the UEFA slot this year as Cup runners up. Didn't think 4th would get anything this year:?

Indeed, we play Killie TWICE. Finishing third is now gone, but finishing fourth is in our own hands.

Hearts may finish 2nd, get the CL place and therefore "give up" the Scottish Cup Uefa place to the runners up (gretna) but if the Hun finish 2nd, Hearts will get the Scottish Cup Uefa berth (assuming they win) leaving the next top team in the SPL (ie fourth) to take the last Uefa place - and not Gretna.

I dont know about anyone else but I reckon getting back into Europe is not out of the question and I for one want Hibs to be there, even though that may mean silverware you-know-where to achieve that.

In the midsts of the scab picking this quite achievable outcome has been lost.

Riordan will be available, Dalglish will be back. More importantly, Brown, Stewart, Shiels even might be in contention for the remaining games.

We have 3 massive games left - Celtic, Hearts and Rangers. I am looking forward to them.

What better way to get a small bit of REVENGE for yesterday by stopping them getting 2nd place (by winning the last derby) and then having them winning the cup actually winning us a place in Europe?

This season has many twists and turns to come yet. It is far from over unless we and the players allow it to be.

That is not what Sky Sports and BBC are reporting? They are clearly stating Gretna will only get into Europe by a) winning the cup or b) Hearts finishing 2nd thereby going into the CL.

Just to make sure that Sky and BBC were right I just contacted the SFA...to be told

"if Hearts finish third but then go on to win the Scottish Cup in May the 4th placed SPL team will go into the UEFA Cup and not Gretna".
