New right back

How many goals do we lose that come from Whittys position. The guy is an excellent player going forward but he just cannot defend. How long does it take TM to notice this. I dont have a replacement in mind but i hate to think of Skacel up against him next week

Re: New right back

He has been dire for months and is starting to be a serious liability. How TM cannot see it is anyone's guess. I would rather see Caldwell at right back with Konde or Hogg in the middle with Smith.

Re: New right back

Whittakers drop in form coincides with scott brown not having played in front of him with brown being out thru injury or when fit having been played infield a little. I do agree that something needs done though as you will not win games if you cannot defend well something hibs have not been doing for a while. Chris hogg had his best games this season imo against rangers in the cup then falkirk in the league but has not played since as mowbray seems hell bent on playing the same defence that is not working week in week out.

I would like to see Whitty dropped for Sunday and Caldwell moved to RB and Hogg brought into CB but that is never going to happen

Re: New right back

I think Mowbray will likely make changes on Sunday, he has to really, or we are in for a nasty defeat. When we beat Hearts comfortably at Easter Road earlier in the season (when they were on top form and "unbeatable" remember), Caldwell played at right-back, and Rudge played in the middle. Both were excellent in stopping the threat from Skacel and Kancelscaus (or whatever his name is). I would put Caldwell to right-back again, Hogg back into the middle with Smith, and Whittaker further forward into right-midfield.

He has to do something as we have been hammered twice from Hearts already this season playing Whittaker and Sproule on the right.

Re the future, I think we will have a new right-back for next season, amongst several new faces. Would love to see McNamara at ER as he just the sort of player we need, but in a holding role just in front of the back four.

Have to agree ... and also that Ivan is likely going to have to play up front if he starts ...

personally, I'd like to go back to having him on the bench and put him on at half time having held them first half, as this is how I think we'll win ...

but given our injuries up front we look like we're gonna have to start with him there ....

Re: New right back

Yeah i agree with these posts..Think TM should put Caldwell out there and bring in Hogg to play along side Smith at CB.. The best run we had this season (defence wise) was with them 2 at the back..

the only thing about leaving ivan on the bench is that he is ineffective if he comes on and we are 2 or 3 down
