Jim Duffy has been promoted to director of football at Hearts

Jim Duffy received assurances from owner Vladimir Romanov about Hearts head coach Graham Rix's future before accepting a director of football role.

"I met Vladimir on Saturday night and he asked me if I wanted the job for the rest of the season," said Duffy.

"I asked if Graham would remain until the end of the season as I was concerned about continuity at the club.

"He insisted that unless something dramatic happened then he would be. The players know Graham is in charge."

The 46-year-old Duffy has been promoted by the Lithuanian after first arriving at Tynecastle before the end of last month to help out with coaching duties.

"It would have been a difficult decision without those assurances because of the uncertainty," he said.

This may not be all good news if Hearts can find a good replacement. Lets face it Rix was no Alex Ferguson. At least with Duffy and Rix in charge we knew not to expect much. I think it shows that Romanov is serious about making Hearts Scotland's biggest team. Could be good for our semi's chances but not long term.....

According to teletext some guy with a Lithuanian sounding name ( not Romanov, I hasten to add) is taking over as coach.
BUT is this good or bad for us re the semi-final ? I hoped the twin dumplings Rix and Duffy would have been in charge of herz.

The people urging caution have a point, and the Hibbies must keep the desire as high as poss. However, wi this Lithuanian in charge, I can't see the Scots players taking to him too much especially 'Elvisk' - who I should imagine will be out with a statement shortly surely?

that is true, but i think the main thing now is whether Pressley/Webster/Hartley want to stay on at Hearts

if they lost those three then they've lost the spine of the team which has made them a decent side for the last few years...i just dont think the yams realise that this could be the last straw for Pressley & co.
