Return train price for semi is...........

£17.50 for the football special, according to what's been said on Hibs.Net.

I expected it be a tenner at the most. Scotrail are taking the piss.

Re: Return train price for semi is...........

To get to Hampden it would cost you about £12 and you'd have to change to get to Glasgow Central.

I think they are banking on the fact that passengers are willing to pay an extra £5 to save the hassles and get you straight there.
Given the previous exploits of supporters on specials they are possibly going to try and cover themselves for cleaning costs and possible damages.

It's a free market .. pay it if you think it's fair .. dont pay it if you think it's a rip off.

I've no choice but to do the change at Queen Street but I would happily pay an extra £5 if Scotrail said they'd take me straight to the ground.

As I said it's usually £8.90 rtn to Queen St, half-price if there are four of you. If there are five of you sharing a taxi it would cost you another £1.50 each to Hampden. I believe it's an opportunity for Scotrail to make a healthy profit from this but that's what a free market does, giving it will not be the most updated trains. I still believe it's a rip-off. RE: the time of the game fans will pay what Scotrail are demanding.

Re: Return train price for semi is...........

I notice no-one ever considers the extra costs.

Just about every manager and supervisor at Waverley, Haymarket, Queen St and Glasgow Central out on duty. A massive increase in revenue collection staff on the day. Extra (highly paid) drivers and conductors to work the specials. Track access charges to be paid to Network Rail because these are services outwith the normal timetable. The cost of leasing extra rolling stock or upping the insurance on the existing stock for the anticipated damage. If it is existing stock, extra shifts at the maintenance depots like Haymarket and Eastfield to clean up the mess.

All this for business the company would rather have avoided as staff are abused (particularly at the Glasgow end) and trains are vandalised.

There's always another side to any story.

Fair point and totally agree with all of that. However Scotrail never lose a trick in fleecing people on the Edinburgh-Glasgow line. Normal standard day return from Edinburgh-Glasgow is £16.20

Bet the price of the football special would have been nothing like that if the train was running for similar distance within the SPT zone

Wouldn't suprise me if Scotrail were not making a penny on this.

Fleecing? And it's standing room only on a lot of services?

If you owned a business and the customers were flocking to use it - would you lower prices in a charitable act?

Whether we like it or not, irrespective of political beliefs, it's called market forces and it's what happens when private companies run franchises. Quality of service goes up and often so do prices.

Delay minutes and cancellations are at an all time low - passengers are up something like 40% in the last 10 years. Trains are full. Shouldn't be a surprise prices are high.

By the way - you can't compare services to those within the SPT zone. The SPT pay a large subsidy to ScotRail to keep prices down. Your income tax in fact subsidises those low fares!

Which is wrong IMO. Although right for a line such as Edinburgh-Galashiels..

OK, so that justifies the big price for the Jambo specials, but the Hibby one should be a tenner.
