Hibs 6 V 0 Arbroath

January's goals start with our great Scottish Cup adventure, and the 1st round match against Arbroath. Five minutes before half-time, a Derek Riordan corner was knocked back out to him by Stevie Whittaker and his returning in-swinging cross was nodded in by Scott Brown

Just before the break, an excellent through ball by Sam Morrow caught out the Lichties defence, and Ivan Sproule

nipped in behind them to fire a 12-yard shot into the far corner.

The third goal came from an unlikely source, David Murphy powered his way forward right through the centre of the park, his pass found Micheal Stewart

whose delayed run then cut-back created the space he needed to fire in a low drive into the bottom left corner of the net from 20 yards.

Hibs' domination of the match was evident when a cross from Derek Riordan was knocked on by Chris Hogg and landed at the feet of Garry O'Connor

in the 6-yard box, who steered the ball into the net.

The fifth goal was so simple, but with a finely executed finish. A Steven Glass cross found Garry O'Connor on the edge of the penalty box, his knock down to Scott Brown was despatched with precise accuracy, low and hard, into the bottom left corner of the net.

Hibs finished this game of with as clinical a finish as you'll see in a long time. Ivan Sproule, back helping the home defence, latched onto a loose ball. His vision in seeing Garry O'Connor available some 70 yards away was superb. His looping pass over the Arbroath defence sent O'Connor away down the right, cutting in along the 18-yard line, O'Connor squared the ball for Steven Fletcher

arriving at the back post, and Fletch's chipped shot caught the 'keeper flat-footed to make it a 6-0 scoreline.

Hibs 1 v 2 Aberdeen

After gifting Aberdeen two goals in the first 15 minutes, Hibs rattled the Dons goal with everything they had. A missed Derek Riordan penalty, with 20 minutes to go, told us it was not to be our day but they kept plugging away and pulled one back in injury time. Hibs were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty box, and after a re-take, Steven Glass sliiped the ball to the un-marked Stevie Whittaker

who fired the ball through the legs of Aberdeen 'keeper, Jamie Langfield.

Hibs 3 v 1 Dunfermline

A superb piece of incisive, passing football created the opening goal for Hibs. Stevie Whittaker, driving forward, slipped the ball to Garry O'Connor on the edge of the area, who turned back and passed the ball into the path of Derek Riordan

who's side-footed looping strike found the postage-stamp corner of the net from all of 22 yards.

Hibs' second was another from the Derek Riordan

scrapbook of Magnificent Free Kicks: Vol ll.
An excellent surging run from his own half by Scott Brown resulted in him being hacked down 25 yards from goal. Distance being no object to Deeks, he duly dispatched said free kick over the Dunfy wall and in-off the far post.

The points were sown up with another superb finish, this time from Steven Fletcher

Controlling a defensive clearance on his chest just inside the Pars half, Fletch turned his marker and powered on up to the edge of the penalty box and unleashed a fantastic left foot shot from 20 yards, which gave the Dunfermline 'keeper no chance.

Gonads # v 1 Hibs

Gifting goals to the opposition is something Tony Mowbray has had to work on with his players, and it was more evident here when a piss poor team that could'nt pass, tackle(except when trying to mutilate their opponents) or header a ball were 3 goals up at half time. Once Hibs had actually realised they were there to play a game of football they scored the best goal of the game.
Kevin Thomson waltzed around the Gonads midfield and made the perfect pass to Garry O'Connor

just outside the penalty box, he looked up, picked his spot, and fired a glorious 20 yard strike into the Gonads goal.

Thats your choices for January folks, vote on
