when did you learn about the interest of the russian club?

about a month ago. after one of the games the coach told me that lokomotiv is interested in me. at first i was surprised but soon i actually received their offer. after consulting with my friends and relatives i decided to move.

i thought that one of the best scorers in scotland must be dreaming about moving into a club from english premiere-league.

indeed most of my colleagues wish to play in an english club.but i know that lokomotiv is an ambitious club which is able to qualify for champion's league. i'm certain that signing for lokomotiv is a step forward in my career.

whose opinion influenced you most in taking this decision?

everyone's. my relatives, the agent, the coach and hibernian's president - all of them influenced my decision. and my wife regarded this decision with understanding. she and my son will soon join me in moscow.

has anyone in your family been to russia before?

no. but i have friends who have visited your country and they say that moscow became a lot more hospitable than it was 10 years ago.

is it sad to leave the club that has brought you up?

of course, it is. but, as i have already said, i consider it to be a step forward in my career.

according to british media, hibernian is planning to put the money received from lokomotiv into modernization of the stadium.

i was born in edinburgh and has been a hibernian fan since my childhood. when i was 12 i started playing in the youth team of this club, and when i was 16 i made my debut in the first team. there were no other teams in my carrer besides hibernian.

according to your last name you have irish roots. is that true?

never heard of the irish in my family. my parents were born and brought up in scotland. in fact irish last names are quite a common thing in scotland.

what did you know about russian football before moving to lokomotiv?

i definitely heard the names of the teams. i know that russian national team failed in qualifying to the world cup 2006. but it seems to me that it was only a disappointing accident.

why did you choose number 9 on your shirt?

i had this number in hibernian and scotland national team.

honestly speaking: is lokomotiv just a step in your way to a solid european club or do you plan to fulfil your 5-year contract?

i wouldn't have signed a long-term contract if i hadn't been ready for it. i like the head coach and his assistants. i hope we'll manage to win the championship this year, and i'm going to score not less than in scotland."

maybe it's because we normally lose our players for free to the old firm and are angry with the players for going, whereas o'connor was guven the choice, and for £16,000 a week, couldnt knock it back

anyway, hibs have killen, fletch, riordan, and spruorl, so we can still be just as effective upfront
