Yet another man from the North?

Sproule favours Derry move

Institute striker Ivan Sproule, a long-time target of Finn Harps manager Felix Healy, believes his future lies in the eircom League with Derry City – despite the fact that he is in Scotland this week to undergo a trial at Scottish Premier League high-fliers Hibernian.

Sproule’s lightning pace and youth – he is still just 23 – has made him one of the most sought-after forwards in the Irish League.

Finn Harps have been repeatedly linked with a move for the player this winter, and the player held talks with the Ballybofey club last week.

However, Sproule has decided to join Derry where he would be reunited with former Stute manager and newly-appointed Derry assistant boss Paul Hegarty – provided this week’s trial at Easter Road comes to nought.

He told the weekend newspaper, Donegal on Sunday: “At the start of the week I believed my future lay at Finn Harps as they had made an offer for me. But a few days later, I met Derry city manager Stephen Kenny, and we had a long chat.

"He really impressed me with his plans for Derry City and I would like to be part of his plans. As far as i know, Stephen and [Institute manager] Pascal Vaudequin have already discussed the situation and I’ve been told they are confident of reaching a deal which could see me playing at the Brandywell next season if my trip to Scotland doesn’t work out.

"Naturally, I’ll not be thinking too much about that until I see what happens this week, but it’s great to have something to fall back on as it’s clear my future doesn’t lie with Institute.”

Re: Yet another man from the North?

Paul Hegarty signed him and then he left and was replaced by the French guy a few weeks back. The French bloke and Sproule dont get on, so Sproule was transfer-listed.

As for the player himself, I don't reckon he'll do the job, skillfull enough, can play either wing and up front, but even in the Irish league he looks like a headless chicken, can skin the whole pitch then miss the open net type player. If he had any sort of final product he'd be a great player
