Default St Patricks Athletic

Am gonna start doing a small weekly thread on St Patricks Ath. matches as I know a few Hibees became fans of the Saints after the Irish tour.

Last weekend the Saints drew 1-1 with title contenders Derry City. It was probably the Saints best performance this season, and only for an 86th minute o.g. it would have been a great result for us. The Saints took the lead threw new signing Chris Armstrong with one of the goals of the season (glasgowian can agree with that surely) and overall were slightly the better team and deserved the win.

Team V Derry City was 1. Barry Ryan (capt) 2. Barry Prenderville 3. John Frost 4. Stephen Caffery 5. Darragh Maguire 6. Paul Donnelly 7. Ian Maher 8. Alan Reilly 9. Robbie Doyle 10. Chris Armstrong 11. Sean O'Connor

Subs: Rowe for O'Connor 90min, Quigley for Doyle 83 min
Not Used: Clarke (GK), Perth, Foley-Sheridan

This Saturday night see's the Saints travel to Flancare Park to play Longford Town 7.45pm kick off.

Manager John McDonnell has no injury worries and new signing Stephen Brennen, signed from Newcastle United, goes straight into the squad.

Longford Town 1-0 Saints

The Saints lost 1-0 on Saturday night to a 77th minute penalty scored by Longfords Barry Ferguson. A terrible decision by referee Paul McKeon to give the penalty after the accidently hit Stephen Caffery's hand after rebounding off his foot.

All in all a terrible match, and a terrible performance from the Saints. Much needs to be improved before this weekends FAI Cup tie away to Division 1 league leaders Sligo Rover's, kick off 7.45pm at the Showgrounds in Sligo.

Team V Longford Town: 1. Barry Ryan (capt) 2. Barry Prenderville 3. John Frost 4. Stephen Caffery 5. Darragh Maguire 6. Paul Donnelly 7. Ian Maher 8.Alan Reilly 9. Robbie Doyle 10. Chris Armstrong 11. Sean O'Connor

Next Fixture: Sligo Rover's v St Patrick's Athletic. FAI Cup 3rd Round

Sligo Rovers 2 Saints 1 :-D :-D

Nothing to report on this. Lost 2-1 after being 1-0 up against Div 1 opposition. Disgraceful. Heads will roll at end of season when contracts are up

Bray Wanderers 1-0 St Patrick's Athletic

God dam this is getting difficult. Saints now lie 3rd from bottom of Eircom League Premier Division. An 85th minute goal gave Bray all 3 points at the Carlisle Grounds. Me thinks it's time for managerial changes at Richmond Park.

This Friday night, Sept 9th @ 7.45pm Saints are at home for the Dublin derby against Bohemians.

COME ON THE SAINTS!!

Keep the faith.

As WDH probably has that 'sinking' feeling or has committed suicide after last night, I though I'd help him with the match report...

And I'm sure he'll tell you that the only thing worse that losing a derby to a last-minute goal is when you lose a derby to a last-minute goal scored by a player you sold to us 2 months ago

St Patricks Athletic 0-1 Bohemians

The pressure is mounting on Saint Patrick's Athletic manager John McDonnell. Not only are his side struggling but they lost to a last minute goal tonight and the man who scored the goal was released by McDonnell back in July.

Although of a much higher quality than in March, the two sides seemed set to play out another 0-0 draw in Inchicore until Aidan O'Keefe nipped in to turn a long ball home in the final minute.

The Saints had actually upped their game from recent weeks and were cursing their luck as they found goalkeeper Matt Gregg in inspired form. Pick of the bunch was a save to deny Glen Larsen.

As for the goal...handball? NEVER See the winning goal HERE

Goal was clear handball. Bohs deserved NOTHING from a game where they were outplayed and only came out to play in last ten minutes. Terrible result for Saints as they were by far the better team. Even the Bohs fans are admitting on their own forum that it was a hand ball.

Saints gave debuts to 2 players, Glen Atle Larson (bought from Dundee) and Stephen Brennan (from Newcastle Utd) Manager John McDonnell also brought in 3 players from the reserves as he brought in changes after recent defeats.

TEAM: 1. Barry Ryan (capt) 2. Barry Prenderville 3. John Frost 4. Ian Maher 5. Stephen Caffery 6. Stephen Brennen 7. Glen Atle Larson 8. Alan Reilly 9. Chris Armstrong 10. Michael Foley 11. Sean O'Connor

This Weeks Fixture: Friday 16th Sept.
Away to Drogheda United (United Park 7.45pm)

And now to add to it all, goalscorer O'Keefe even ADMITTED he handled the ball.

Sorry, just don't agree with blatent cheats in football. But then, we come to expect that from Bohs

It must've been a HUGE result for Boez though, I mean, when 80 or 90 fans have to invade the pitch when their team scores a league goal, things must be desperate

Anyway, this is a Saints thread, so lets keep it that way

Saints 0-0 Finn Harps

No match report worth giving. Terrible game. Disgraceful performance. After @nd bottom Waterford beating Bohemians it leaves Saints 3 points from relegation play off

Next Fixture:

Tonight 03/10/2005 away v Bohemians Kick off @ 7.45pm

A game we simply can't afford to lose.

Darragh Maguire and John Frost back from suspension
