Groningen win at last! And how!

Pleased to report three points for our Dutch counterparts, saw them briefly this morning on the breakfast round-up, looked in good fettle.

From a Dutch news source:

FC Groningen won their first game this season. They were at home to Utrecht (were third in table! - HS). And it was a good drubbing too that they dished out to FC Utrecht: 3-0. Last time Utrecht lost in the premier division at Oosterpark was ten years ago...

Seedorf sored the first, and Hugo and Elshot added two more to take it up to 3-0. Despite the defeat, FC Utrecht remain third as Ajax lost on Saturday evening. Utrecht play the Real Zaragoza of Spain in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.

Great stuff!

It isn't going very well, the building companies made some mistakes in the drawings and they have to remove some parts.
But they say that they're still on schedule.
And they're still within budget.

We're are thinking about planning a trip, first or second weekend in March.
Just a little group.

I will post some pics (gallery) from yesterdays match against The Hague, we've won 4-3.

FCG 3-1 FC Den Bosch

Third home win in a row for the Grunningers... but a wee bit fortunate - here's a report culled from Frizzie's excellent
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Groningen can count themselves fortunate to have won this one. They played miserably in the first half which gave Den Bosch the freedom to create a lot of chances. And indeed at half time it was 0-1 for the team from the province of Brabant in the South.

However, FCG came out of the changing rooms a different team.
Perennial goalscorer Glenn Salmon makes it 1-1 after 56 mins.
Three minutes later a lovely lob from Danny Buijs (a defender!) makes it 2-1.

A fine drive from Mathias Florén on 75 minutes and the game is decided: 3-1.

So that makes 12 points from the last 5 games, not bad at all.

FC Groningen: Roorda; Buijs, Matthijs, Kruiswijk, Florén; Krstev, Seedorf, (C) Van Gessel, Hugo (90' Fledderus); Salmon, Nevland (84' Bizimana)

Ref: Sterk

Attendance: 12.258

Re: Groningen win at last! And how!

Hehe, we had a little party at my place yesterday but i'm sober again.
Yep, we've won against Feyenoord.
Last year it was the first time we've won in Rotterdam ever.
So nobody expected another victory for "the Greens", next week we play against AZ and they are the best team this year after PSV Eindhoven.
So it will be difficult to win but I hope so.
Pehaps u can watch the game FC Groningen - AZ on the internet if u like.

Hopefully the Grunns can improve on this in the second half of their season, and, you never know, scrape a wee euro spot.

How cool would a Hibees v Groningen euro-tie be next season.

Riccus is on the way to a first team debut
Re: Groningen win at last! And how!

Another big win for us yesterday at Utrecht (1-2) as Erik Nevland scored both goals. We moved up to the 10th place in the leaugue and still have a game in hand. The gap with number 6 (our bitter rivals FC Twente Enschede), which at the end of the season means qualification for the uefa-cup, is only 6 points.

Gunner, the shirt you gave me must have magical powers. I wore it for the first time and we get our first win in Utrecht in 8 years (only 3 wins ever over there).

Sorry to hear about your loss against those sheepsh*gging b*stards of Aberdeen.
