what's wrong with people? i read another thing yesterday about some guy whose just been banged up for kicking in the head of a guy he just happened across who was out on the deck having been stabbed in an unrelated assault.

imagine that, you happen across someone lying stabbed, and you think to yourself - i know, i'll just kick their head in.

wtf????

Re: nihilist bastards

Man that's pretty shocking.

Havin a crowd come and gather for somethin like that is pretty bad but to be expected...them going so far as to taunt him to jump though isn't really something I've heard of happening before.

While I agree with the defence about none of the crowd being arrested the police should have at the very least moved the crowd, or at least those doing the shouting, on and then taken more action if they had refused to do so.

TBF I reckon the Police had more pressing concerns than trying to move on a section of the crowd. It doesn't really surprise me - think about sick responses from many to things like the Munich Air Crash.

EGB - as an ex-casual I imagine you frequently witnessed the sight of wee (and not so wee) bawbags wading in to take a kick, punch etc at some poor sod from another firm who had stood and taken a beating. It's very wildlifesque(?) in my opinion, like a pack of hyenas feeding off the kill.

more times than i care to recall. i could never stomach it, and in the end, that's what caused the 'ex'. you're right, it is pack dynamics, absolutely.

that said, the worst stuff i've seen was not football related, where usually some older chap would at some point order things to be halted (well, apart perhaps from if it was vs huns or aberdeen)

you don't get that limiting factor at night when folk are tanked up. any of us out and about in edinburgh in 80s and 90s will have seen the consequences. i doubt it's any different now.

Disgusting, indeed. But, alas, far from surprising.

An, admittedly extreme, example of mob mentallity. From public stonings to Big Brother eviction crowds it's a disgusting facet of human nature that's always been with us.

And dare I say it, football hooliganism

True, true, but sending 1 or 2 to tell the crowd to shut up or piss off might have been possible.

I guess that is a bit of wishful thinking and I suppose naievity as a result of me being the sort of person who couldn't imagine doing something like that.

Jesus wept.

Knife crime, thankfully, is almost non-existent where I come from.

I've hated people in my time. I've thought of hurting said people but know it's very unlikely I would. I've known plenty violent people in my time but have never even heard of anyone being either victim or perpetrator of a knifing.

Putting a knife in a pregnant woman?! F#ck me, that's extreme. That can only be physcopathic. And utterly cowardly and scum.

No wonder it took you years to get over it Ms 1875. How's it feel like getting knifed? How long before you realise what's happened? Don't answer if it's sensitive. I'm just a nosy b'stard.

Jesus wept.

That's like trying to knife a woman and a child.

From what I've read of prisons I'd let Saughton know it all. Scum.

The boy who done it went far away so no one could get him and for what i have heard he says it was because he was on drugs at the time and he wanted to hurt my husbands friends girlfriend to get back at him and he was sorry that he got the wrong person.

Re: nihilist bastards

I've lost friends to knife attacks over the years. I can never understand people carrying a knife, getting into a fight with someone, using the knife and claiming they didn't mean to kill them. I've lost count of the cases I've read of where they "get away" with manslaughter/culpable homicide or less and spend 2/3 years in jail for what is basically murder.

The feeblest excuse ever. I've taken every drug available and none has made me even slightly violent. It's mostly violent c#nts that take drugs but, imho, that's just because they're illegal. The violent c#nts would be violent anyway.

"he wanted to hurt my husbands friends girlfriend to get back at him and he was sorry that he got the wrong person" Even worse excuse. Jesus, was he honestly trying to excuse himself with that?!

That certainly happened at an incident I witnessed in Newark upon Trent, Notts. A guy was threatening to jump off a bridge into the River Trent and the police moved smartly in and ushered away bystanders and spectators, no bother.
