I think the confusion may be that the joke is usually as you indicate above. The smellies don't wash their clobber hence the green and grey hoops.
The original post on the site refers to grey and white hoops. So in fact the joke isn't quite there. But then again most of the Celtc fans aren't quite all there either.

I've got to put my hand up and say I fkd up and it took me ages to notice the mistake, despite reading it countless times. I think the words grey and hoops just made me temporarily blind to what was actually there.

I note that most of the Celtic fans seem quite happy to accept that the ride thief is a Celtc fan though. Presumably just on the basis that he's a thieving bassa
