Help needed

Bouncers, got a HUGE game tomorrow, the regional cup final.

The last game I played was the league cup final, and while we won 2-1, their goal came from my mistake. If you need proof, ask SKII.

Anyway, anybody know a good way to keep calm before and during the match?

Cheers,
Ross

Re: Help needed

'Your not playing in a cup final. Your playing a game of football. Your more likely to lose a final' was the best advice given to me. Too many managers seem to dwell on the fact its a cup final, which can have the opposite affect on people.

Re: Help needed

Chew gum,

Also,I like to have a wee moment to myself 5 minutes before the game and usually just have a wee walk about the pitch.....

Always found having a wee song in my head that I like keeps me from worrying about stuff that I've done wrong - At the moment it would be "Black & Gold" by Sam Sparrow,Dunno why.

I've won the last 6 finals I've been in and scored in a few of them so the above does the business for me.

Good luck dude

Re: Help needed

Half bottle of whisky??? Only jesting. Seriously, forget about the last game, it's done and has no relevance to this game. Enjoy yourself, you've worked hard to get to the final so enjoy it. Sit next to the joker of the team or the most relaxed player (often the captain) in the changing rooms and have a laugh during the warm up. Apart from making you feel more relaxed, the opposition may be nervous too and if they see you guys appearing so chilled, it will worry them even more. During the match, make sure that your first touch of the ball is a positive one, make a simple short pass. Honestly, the way you start the game can make a big difference and a simple thing like that can immediately relax you.
Lastly, and this may seem obvious, but remember that it really is only a game. No matter how competitive you are, it's not the end of the world if it doesn't go well.
Good luck Stew, let us know how it goes. Get it right up them.

Re: Help needed

Guess I should point out I'm a goalkeeper, so my first touch would probably be a catch, and that chewing gum could be a tad risky.

Cheers for the advice everyone

well done.

Who let in the goal - you or the "first choice keeper"?

So what's your tip now having done the business?

Mines would be "don't think about it - just do it" and

"fail to prepare, prepare to fail"

Congratulations, I hope you enjoyed it. Big time.

It's that Ian Mackay, i'm the only player who can start and be a sub at the same time

but it was the other guy. I had a decent save at 1-0.

Erm probably just try to focus on the match, and don't lose any concentration on the football game.

thanks to everyone
