the answer is clear; more cops. i read the other day that new yorks crime rate is starting to creep back up since bloomberg slashed the amount of police since giuliani's day. if that;s true, so much for the freakonomics abortion theory - looks like it was the obvious answer all along.

anyway, the mission for boris is clear; less diversity commissars, more police. lets see what the blond buffoon can do.

yeah but a sad and inevitable fact is that 9/11 played a big part in the reduction of crime and violence in New York.

Boris though can't sack London's top Policeman which seems pretty unbelievable to me..

other than 2001 was, presumably, a record murder rate after which it plummeted in relative terms, i'm not sure i getcha?? rudi g had already got the place cleaned up by then.

nothing like being under threat to create a bit of unity.

have a few mates in NY, apparently the mood of the city changed permantly after 9/11 and it still remains the same.

people now look out for each other and are less likely to turn a blind eye to others in trouble.

There might be something in what you say, but I think the crime rate had dropped quite a lot before 9/11. Certainly when I went there in 99 it felt a lot different and safer than it had a few years before.
