Default box junctions

I don't post on here very often. The last time was to have a massive whinge about congestion charges and parking fines.

I received a notice, from Harrow council, yesterday telling me that I have been fined £60 for entering a box junction. One of their operators apparently seen me on video and took a still.

Since when did councils employ video operators?

To make matters worse, the fine rises to £120 if I don't pay it within 14 days of the notice. The notice is dated 24th April, yesterday was 9th May. Work it out.

It arrives at the house 15 days after the notice with no franking date on the letter. Honestly you couldn't make this stuff up.

This country just gets worse and worse. National and local government now seem to be treating motorists as some sort of cash cow, who are only there to pay shit loads of money into their coffers at the drop of a hat.

Unlike speeding, where you have white lines on the road and two photographs to prove you were speeding. What I have is a photograph of me in the junction behind another car. This could have been a photograph of me moving through the junction. It doesn't prove anything.

I'll now need to speak to some moron on Monday who will tell me it was posted on the 25th and imply that I am a liar, then insist on the £120.

Except that they, presumably, have the video of you. Or are you denying you committed the offence?

Don't come up Haringey. With some spare year end cash () they have been up the Broadway painting little box junctions on the pavement in front of the cashline machines. Don't know if anyones been fined yet!!

I shit you not, what a waste of my fecking money. Would have been better spent on school places.

they can only take the prosocution(sp) further if the have a time stamped video, and they are able to prove you were driving at the time,

I would contest it and ask, you may find the council are hoping people will pay without contention

Check with C.A.B. as well,

And surely the operative must be a traffic warden or some other 'traffic' enforcement befre they can even think about doing you

i would check this out before paying anything, and if you can fight it

They changed the law down here about 2 months ago. If you park your car and don't buy a ticket, they can send you a parkIng fine based on catching you on video. Same if you stop on a double red or park on a double yellow, no warden now required.

I have 2 "moans" 1. that the council are apparently employing people to sit and look at videos and 2. They managed to send it to me 15 days after event took place, when the fine doubles after 14. No proof of when it was sent or when it arrived.

Don't think the law applies in Scotland but I wouldn't hold my breath, give it a few months and we''ll see how many people are on here "moaning".

Have you seen the wee cars with the periscopes on the roof surmounted by a CCTV ? They drive around filming stuff they can fine people for - always hanging around schools gates at school run time.

I would want danger money to do that job!!

No idea how long they keep the videos for, but I would assume they probably have it. Hard to remember committing an offence you didn't realise you had committed.

When was the last time you stopped in a box junction? You probably can't remember (I couldn't). However, once the law in Scotland is changed, and I'm sure it will be: then you'll find out one day when the fine drops through your letter box.

If it's digital - which it is most likely to be - can you request that they email you the footage?

Good, hope they do that here. About 50% of the time I come down the road towards my house I've got to sit and wait for a chance to get into the right hand lane because of some plamf who thinks because he has hazard lights flashing that gives him the right to ignore parking restrictions and get a tenner out the ATM or a loaf of bread in the shop next door.

No time for selfish gits who'll hold up a line of traffic rather than park round the corner and walk 20 yards.

Feck the school run too. Adds 20 mins to a drive into Belfast from home because the wee darlings aren't allowed to walk to school by their parents (even though the number of incidents of stranger abduction of children in NI currently stands at ZERO).

It's the attitude of bureaucrats which annoys just as much as the fines etc.

My other half was up for jury duty but had booked a holiday. She had to prove that she was telling the truth so they'd put it back to the next time. My point is - it's a case of the tail wagging the dog. Why is some bureaucrat allowed to imply that my missus is a liar instead of just putting it back to the next time.

It's the type of thing that is too late to fix when you let a nanny state get out of hand.

You misconstrue. They are on the pavement, not the road. They are for pedestrians!!!
