Angry Why is everyone so confident Gretna fiasco will be sorted out?

Can't see it myself who in their right mind will give them money?
I'll be more than happy to see the Hear*s sympathising c*nts go to the wall but NOT before the end of the season.

Re: Why is everyone so confident Gretna fiasco will be sorted out?

Keith, it's not a major problem for other SPL clubs to bail them out. Say five thousand each between half of the SPL clubs if it comes to that. What is that for the likes of Hibs and Motherwell if it enhances their chances of finishing higher up the table and qualifying for Europe? I'm sure Rangers would also prefer that Celtic have to play for the points (against Gretna) with things pretty tight at the top. An (albeit unlikely) draw between Celtic and Gretna could be the difference between Rangers winning the league or not. Unlikely as I say, but you never know.

They'd all likely to it for selfish reasons rather than for Gretna's benefit but that's by the by. I doubt if the SPL is that keen on their competition being turned into a farce either so they will want to save face too.

I can't see the other clubs helping them out Kilmarnock are cash strapped enough as it is. The only saving grace could be that they play celtc next week and hopefully they'll get around 10,000 plus the Setanta money? 25,000 Celtc fans have no qualms about topping up some millionaire Man Utd player in a testimonial but when it comes to the survival of a scottish(??) team I'm sure it'll be a different story completely.

Fecking Motherwell fans should be going so that they stay close to Dundee Utd in the league! If we weren't at ER, I'd be considering it!

Re: Why is everyone so confident Gretna fiasco will be sorted out?

The sponsor payments from the SPL are normally staged throughout the season...

I think the SPL is planning to bring forward a payment that the administrators can use to get them to the end of the season...

as pointed out on the other thread... if the Gretna situation was to decide something significant like the league or UEFA Cup qualification it would put the SPL in a very difficult situation and probably open up a legal can of worms

to fulfill their fixtures then die quietly is the easiest option for the SPL

I think given the muppets in charge we all expect them to go for the easiest option

I hope they do go to the wall I would rather have a Dundee, St Jonstone or Dunfermline in the SPL, makes it stronger and more interesting.

They bring fuck all to the SPL.

Not sure what your point is ZB, you'll need to expand.

In response to Persevered: Gretna are going to be relegated (at best) and are highly unlikely to come back up, so your wish is going to be fulfilled whether they go to the wall or not.

I've had a feeling all along that Dundee might nick the first. Would you accept the Accies though as they are in with a good shout?

Sorry mate, was being lazy.

Whilst operating on the assumption that the 11 other SPL Clubs want to help Gretna out I wonder if their hands are tied through some conflict of interest rule?

The likelihood is probably that they won't as there's no guarantee that it'll be this one game only; they'd have to fork out again and again to keep them going.

Maybe.

I'd guess Hibs, Motherwell, possibly Rangers and one or two others might be interested in helping out for reasons already given.

I was thinking specifically of the 30k they need rightaway, but as you say that may just be the beginning and it's very unlikely these clubs are going to fork out week after week with players' wages to be paid for and so on.

Which brings me to my next point...

Why is it deemed "fair" that should they fold then all point won against them be taken away? Does this not give an advantage to other teams who didn't take points off them?

Clearly I'm biased seeing as we took 9 off them but why should it be to our (and teams like ours) disadvantage while hertz (and teams like them) benefit and creep up the league through being too pash to beat them?

Sums are not my strong point but surely it would be less harsh to award 3 points to the teams that have to play them prior to the split if they do go out of business. I suppose there's always going to be a hard luck story somewhere along the line though due to this farce.

There's only 4 games left before the split. Which they'd probably lose anyway!

Probably, but there'd be no way of knowing for sure.

I really hope Gretna get through the season because if not we'll see the same tedious round of appeals from clubs who feel they've been hard done by, as used to happen year after year for a while with promotion and relegation between the SPL and the First over stadium criteria.

Looks like their next two games are certain to go ahead. Dons tomorrow a certainty and Celtic next week is being seen by the Administrator as being a big cash injection they cannot afford to miss out on. On the BBC at lunchtime.

Thing is though that you'd be wiping out games which had happened so that you didn't have to create false results. The SFA were quite happy to award a game to Hamilton in the Scottish Cup because Brechin broke the rules, can't see the difference here with the coming games Gretna had. Moot point anyway since it looks like they'll survive to the split at least.
