I would be very worried if i was a parent to a young teenager there. Must be horrible letting your kids out and not knowing if they are going to be next.

Can't believe how the police there are still saying there is no link to them, mind you I suppose they have to try to play it down as much as they can.

could be, but personally i think its unlikely with the sheer level of incidents. But i'm not really one for the whole suicide cult thing, i think there must be a level inbetween...

My sister and ne n niece stay in ton teg which is just above pontypridd and there is nothing for the kids, no prospects,no local major employers.Both have done uni now and although a fair commute, work in bristol/cardiff,they are very much the minority and very lucky.

Its like a time warp mate,there is feck all to do and feck all to look forward too.

Im not saying thats the reason but its drugville or drinkville (or both)whatever your choice is,and you know what can happen if all rolled into one.

But there must be hundreds of similar places up and down the country , would youngsters copy each other in such a tragic way

You possibly answered that yourself G. Fukkin tragic but it may very well be down to the factors you posted earlier. "Lets Do ourselves in, at least folk will remember us" I hope not but if the picture is as black as you've painted I could see that being a real possibility.

The theory the media seems to be leaning towards is that its a way of getting recognition/fame through from the tributes on networking sites, to newspapers and tv reports. Don't understand the logic at all..what good is the recognition if they are dead??

So many things about this just do not make sense...if the above is true and also its as a result of these kids feeling like its the only way they are going to be recognised we really have reached a new low.

Christ knows what the parents are going thru'..absolutely tragic waste of life.

maybe there isn't? could just be a combination of troubled teens, attention seeking and copycat behaviour. also as the parents of one of the teenagers who died last week was saying today, the media coverage can't be helping, putting ideas in people's heads.

I don't agree. i can imagine you could get a buzz knowing that your face will be all over the media, even if you're not going to be there to appreciate it. that guy who went on a killing spree before killing himself in a shopping mall in america recently left a suicide note to his friends where he mentioned something about 'imagine it, i'm now famous'.

if there are kids in bridgend who were already feeling suicidal before this story began, the promise of instant fame and attention that anyone in bridgend will now get if they kill themselves, may be just enough to make them think that its worth doing

Parts of Scotland had no prospects in the 80s. I don't recall there ever being a problem with suicides though .

In Bridgend it is 17 within a year. Extend the timeframe by a further 15months and they have had 23 suicides.
