Wooly Thinking

Keeping a family running is a full-time job, as any housewife would testify.

So they might not be surprised to learn that researchers reckon a housewife's work is worth £30,000 a year.

They broke down the costs according to the average wages paid to professionals for tasks such as getting children dressed and ready for school, feeding them, helping with homework and getting them ready for bed.

Surely everyone with a family does this. Does this mean Child Benefit should be raised to £575 a week?

Does that include professional services in the ahem... bedroom?? ... I'm sure the wages would be considerably higher!

No. Obviously. Although if the housewife was to die / run away with a cowboy, her labour would need replacing.
Incidentally, lots of families DO pay someone to do those jobs and I would be surprised if they got anywhere near 30,000 (except in London perhaps, and I'm guessing that would be the upper end of the spectrum).

Re: Wooly Thinking

I reckon if a housewife has an issue on her "salary" she should take it up with her employer - her husband.

He could then charge her rent, heating, etc...
