Its sad that anyone doesn't want their baby and does that to them. Horrible experience for everyone involved - dehumanising, infact.

That's heartbreaking Colr, especially when you consider how some people struggle with infertility for years of their lives

Saying that, I'm not too familiar with the debate and I don't have any answers.

Surely the time limit should be dropped significantly lower so that these babys are not suffering, i'm not against abortion but think it should be harder for peeps to get one. Just thinking of this makes you very sad

To an extent I agree but the bigger problem is the number of unwanted pregnacies. We've had the pill available free since the late 60s and condoms available in public toilets and even record shops since the Aids crisis in the mid - 80s. I take it family planning is no longer of interest to the government and NHS.

Have the figures for abortion gone up? Genuine question.

I've said it before on here; I'm for abortion but think the timeframe should be reduced. If the mother or baby are in danger (physically or psychologically) and they're in excess of the legal timeframe then it's down to the doctors to advise what the best course of action is. But, ultimately it's the possible mother's choice.

I would be astonished if the figures had not risen considerably over the last 50 years.

Well it was only legalised in the UK in the late 60s so aye the figures would be higher than in 1958...

IIRC after it was legalised it went up for about the first 10 or so years but has been pretty consistent since then. If that's the case then I'd guess the rate has been pretty stable for close to 30 years.

Re: Sickening

this scenario perfectly demonstrates the almost medieval superstition that underpins the abortion law.

if there's a bag of skin surrounding a baby and you can't see it, you can kill it, but as soon as you can see it, you can't. iirc the law is such a muddle over this that a doctor who presides over an abortion which a baby survives can technically be charged with murder.

what does everybody think should happen here by the way?

if the baby survives the mother can (and it has been done) sue the hospital. presumably the baby if it grows to adulthood could then sue every fecker in sight, both for failing to kill it and for trying to.

still rising dude

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4720813.stm

we've along way to go to match the russki's though. iirc the legacy of soviet ways is something like 4 out 5 conceptions aborted. which is why the russki's population is on a nose dive. well that and all the other bequests of that era and the calamities that followed.

But if it becomes harder to get one, there may be more lifes dumped at the side off the road/cyclepath or where ever else for that matter, also more 'in the system' and that is already full to the point that most councils need to advertise on radio for foster perents, and the reason (can' remember where i saw the survey) why people don't want to go into foster care, is the fear off if things don't work out, the child makes an life destroying allegation

as it has been stated on previous posts the majority of terminations of pregnancy in scotland carried out over 18 weeks and are done for foetal abnormalities and not social reasons.
of course it is incredibly sad to see signs of life but often the best option for the family in the long term. many of these foetuses are incompatible with life making their survival impossible whatever gestation they are delivered at.

But should they be left breathing after the abortion, and left to die?......

If the child was put through an abortion in the first instance, surely they wouldn't have prepared to have it
