Newcastle Utd. - Are They Following The Yams of Kaunas Model ?

This all sounds vaguely familiar.

I predict Keegan to be gone by Easter and Wise to take over as manager.

Lots of tomfoolery and the usual wise words from Keegan. I wonder if he explains things as clearly to his players? I'm giving him till Xmas but you never know, you might be right.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.

Not sure what point you are trying to make but ..

of Keegans first 7 games in charge he will have played Arsenal twice, Man Utd, Liverpool and a hard away game against an Aston Villa (who were 5th in the league at the time).

A bit harsh to judge based on those games surely?

I think he's more likely to be judged on the upcoming home games against Blackburn, Fulham and Reading with the Sunderland game towards the end of April being more likely to decide his future.

Newcastle fans might have laughed a little while back but I think they could well regret getting rid of Allardice. He is a good coach who was doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances.

Newcastle were in free fall under Allardyce .. he was also making some strange tactical decisions and his style was not appreciated by the Newcastle support.

He might have been able to dig in and stave off relegation but the club were losing supporters.

Keegan is not the answer either, but at least his appointed has reversed the trend of losing supporters.

Although they got rattled by Man Utd yesterday I thought that at least they tried to get out and give it go.
They were all over Man Utd for the first 60 seconds!

But for how long? Obviously you've seen and know a lot more about the way Newcastle are playing than me, so correct me if I am wrong with my impressions...

Freefall? I thought Newcastle made a poor start to the season and had begun to pick up and move towards mid-table.

As I say, I could be wrong there but it's what I recall.

Also, the points about Allardice style and strange tactical decisions... You're saying now is not the time to judge Keegan but Allardice wasn't really given much time to get it right, was he? You have a point about difficult matches but the same argument put forward by Derby supporters earlier in the season when they were getting skelped. I'm not saying Newcastle and Derby are parallel cases, but a club with the resources of Newcastle really shouldn't be taking 5-1 and 6-0 hammerings in the space of a couple of weeks, not from anybody.

That suggests to me that the manager isn't getting the basics right. I think Keegan will be given a bit more time than Allardice but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he will be out by Easter. I will stick to my original prediction that he will be lucky to see out the year at St James'.

Stevie, the only point I'm trying to make is that Keegan's return to N'castle was a victory for sentimentality and pandering to the fans.
Do you honestly think it was a good footballing & business decision by Ashley to take Keegan back when so much has happened in the EPL in the intervening years and he hadn't been near a pro game in 2 years ?

Plus, I think this Ashley guy is not what he appears to be, witness the rumours that he tried to get DIC interested in buying Toon which would have netted him a tidy profit.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of time for Newcastle Utd. and I'm not trying to have a pop but I have the feeling that the fans and the board still hang their hats onto that brief moment 11 years ago when they actually threatened to do something under Keegan.

nil points from the next 2 games (home v. blackburn, away v. liverpool) leaves them needing 4 wins from the last 10 games. twitchy bum time.

I put £80 on Newcastle finishing in the bottom half a good few weeks ago. 1.95 were the odds so pretty much a safe bet on doubling my money. Dont know what the odds are now but will be much lower. They are 4 points behind Tottenham in 11th and have a worse goal difference by 29 goals

. 10th place is 11 points away, they have no chance.

Bit of a shame really, they have the fans. They have the money but just cant get things right. Looks like they are going down the route of Chelsea and hiring people for every possible 'role'

In the 14 games prior to Allardyce being sacked they had won just 2 games .. both courtesy of injury time winners.

It was their lucky start to the season (with wins in games they scarcely deserved victory) that had them sitting mid-table.

Footballing will depend on whether they get relegated .. in business terms then yes it was a good decision. Season tickets were sold and commercially things rocketed after the Keegan appointment.

I've said from the start that he isn't the answer, and appointments within the club seem to point to the fact that neither does Ashley, but he has created a buzz and the hope is that transfers to the players and helps to get the 4 wins required to stay up.

dont think the premiership will miss them tbh
although a few teams would miss the 6 points a season
plenty teams with "massive" supports in the championship so they should feel right at home

They have one of the biggest travelling supports in the league so how do you work that one out? It possibly wouldn't matter to teams that sell out every week, but how many of those are there in the Premiership?

Certainly not Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool!

They have more than double the average crowd for any other team currently in the Championship (I think Sheffield United top it with just over 24k) so your statement has done nothing more than highlight the fact that you have enough hatred of the team to come on here making ridiculous accusations.

But how many of their fans would disappear if they got relegated?? Im sure youll recall the tiny (by current standards) before Saint Kevin first came in.
They wont go down but Keegan was a bad appointment-if the Toon Army want attacking football why did they not go for Mowbray.

Attendances were very poor for most teams, but yes they were only getting around 22k.
Given though that Liverpool were getting around 28k at the time, Arsenal and Spurs around 24k and Chelsea probably only around 16k it was by no means poor in comparison to the rest of the teams.
