50's, 60's, 70's 80's or 90's what was the best decade....

......for music?

Pop on trial BBC4 is just about to vote for the most infuential and important decade for music.

I loved the mod scene of the 60's and if I could go back in time that's where I would want to be.

Whats your favourite decade for music folks???

Looking back on the charts, they have always been full of shit. Indie, 60s garage, punk, etc... always provided the best music - I think the 60s and 80s may have been the best for that.

Re: 50's, 60's, 70's 80's or 90's what was the best decade....

50's - not really a fan, but will listen

60's - have an interest, like some off the music

70's - not bad, again will listen

80's - some outstanding bands/singers with some superb songs

90's - nothing stands out that blows my mind, but still a good decade for music

00's - probably my most listened to decade at the moment, but the bands off today take there influence from all the past decades, so a good decade for getting a taste off all decades

That's true.

I find a lot of 50s stuff has dated really badly.

Re: 50's, 60's, 70's 80's or 90's what was the best decade....

i'd say mid 70s to mid 80s is the best decade. if pushed to go with the calendar i'll reluctantly plump for the 80s.

50s i can't relate to, it's like another world.

60s - never understood the appeal of biscuit tin drums, na bass, corny lyrics and twee melodies. sure things have to start somewhere but thank fuck they moved on. only 60s records i own as far as i know, are soul and ska collections and maybe some hendrix and dylan, oh and the stones...bah that lost it's effect a bit.

70s - lots of pish, but also kraftwerk, neu, the pistols, good reggae etc

80s - brilliant till about 83, then fucking rubbish. still those first few years win the day.

90s - a new zenith of the derivative. the 70s revival that started in 1988 seemed to span this decade thus outlasting the 70s itself. in fact is it finished yet? first year or two were ok, but then came the god awful backwards looking pap of britpop, and then the emergence of ****s like radiohead. a terrible decade.

00s - does anyone care about pop music anymore?

Not the best version, but what a song! As a confirmed Soul Boy, I love the Northern Soul, Motown, Philly, Stax etc sound of both the 60's and 70's.
