Are they actually any good or are they, as I suspect, a load of crap.

Re: Pot Noodles are they really any good

I had a chicken and mushroom Pot Noodle last night!

First one I've had in years ............. quite enjoyable.

You have to make sure you let it 'rest' a sufficient time after adding the boiling water or the noodles remain crunchy.
However, a man of your experience in the kitchen should manage.

Just don't add leftover haggis, or cheese.

And if you want to grill it later remember to take it out of the plastic pot first.

Although technically that would just be 'noodle'.

They used to have more than the entire recommended salt intake for an adult male.

By the way they are crap. Had an incident here about three years ago when quite a few kids died after eating a particular brand (won't mention the name but anybody who knows Nigeria will know what I mean). Seemingly to with the wee sachet of flavouring containing something poisonous.

No, they're crap, but after Thatcher wrecked the Welsh coal mining industry and her predecessors wrecked the Welsh slate mining industry, the pot noodle mines are all thats left, so someone needs to buy them.

Not sure E621 is banned in UK. Pretty sure you'll find MSG in any sachet of Bisto.

OK mate, was under the impression it was banned. Will do a trawl of the relevant websites. Meanwhile here is a little about it:

Monosodium Glutamate (E621) - "flavour enhancer" - Is an aminoacid commonly used as a flavouring. While it appears naturally in some foods like Camembert cheese, it's used mainly as an additive, particularly in Chinese and Japanese food. A single bowl of Wonton soup can contain 2.5 grams of MSG. It's also one of the "secret herbs and spices" in Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Can cause intolerant reactions and effect chemistry of the brain.
MSG is responsible for an allergic reaction known as Chinese restaurant syndrome (CRS), characterized by headache, nausea, chest tightness, sweating and a burning sensation along the back of the neck. Some researchers writes that these symptoms affect "only" "MSG-sensitive" individuals who eat free MSG (usually added in the restaurant as a condiment) on an empty stomach. you may want to apply some easy reversing to such assertions :-)
MSG has also been blamed in a case of angioedema.

It isn't. MSG occurs naturally in the Soya Sauce as well. I've taken an interest in these things of late and was shocked to find the preservatives in M&S dried fruit are banned in Australia and the US as they are linked with breathing problems and behavioural disorders. This is the stuff folk are giving their kids thinking its better than sweets. maybe its hand selected Madagascan preservative!!!
