Political dynasties
I was chatting to a pal about Pakistan, specifically the dynastic nature of the Bhutto succession (this was following on from a Tariq Ali piece in the Indy. He pointed out to me that, if Hillary Clinton won the presidential election and a subsequent election, two families will have controlled the top job in the world for 32 years! Not saying it's wrong, but it did get me thinking.

Re: Political dynasties
I've not read the Tariq Ali piece but the irony isn't lost of those championing democracy... only to then personnally choose your successor. It smacks to me of absolute hypocrisy. But hey i'm sure a guy of 18 year old is the best guy for the job..
Then there's the greatest democracy in the world the USA.. Uncle Sam has a population of what 220 Million... 1988-1992 Father Bush 1992-2000 Husband Clinton 2000-2008 Son Bush 2008-???? Wife Clinton Makes you laugh.. |

as for old tariq - desperate isn't it? trying to fit today's world into the mythic structure of his youth ideas, which like most of his ilk were proved wrong on every front. now he's cosying up to everything he recoiled from, because - again like his ilk - now all that matters is the great satan - that point of manical communion for nuts of all flavours. nick cohen was so right about so much. as well as reading the guardian this week i followed the telegraph's coverage. the contrast between conspiracy theories and pieces written by life long friends of BB, her last interview, and informed parties on the ground with every take on it, from the islamist option to the army one was...telling.
