I think Smurf was talking about the opportunist politics of Cameron etal, homelessness has actually fallen during the Labour govt years from a record high under the tories.

there is no fuckin need to have homelessness in our society with the welfare state we have in this country. the problem has been that lovely policy of right to own. ffs council tenents bought there there house for peanuts with who wouldnt do however the policy has only made bad areas worse. look at the oppertunities young people have today compared to the yesterdays


30 years ago_ any choice of council house or emmigrate to oz and they will pay. also the abilty to buy according to your salary basicaly anywhere

20 years ago- torys starts off_ we will sell of the housing stock. only those with the cash bought and a few years later sold up making £££££££ in.

10 years ago- the last chance for a working class person to own his/her own home by actualy getting a mortgage and buying the feker.

NOW_ If a person leaves school to a job say earning 12-20k a year more than half there income goes on just putting a basic right of a roof over there head or heads. IN RENT. which indirectly might go into the house wich some sod bought from the council from now to 20 years ago for the grand amount of 7k and now own an ex council home worth in excess of £150K. its a sad day when a privatly rented flat on west pilton costs £550PM and the equivelent flat owned by the council next doors rent is £50 per week.

your reaction reminds me:

- how well labour annexed the idea that they were the only ones how give a shit about this stuff.

- how credulous the public are; especially in the face of pop stars with attitude

- how naive i am to dismiss such pop bubbles as inconsequential, when they are in fact the opposite.

i'm willing to bet more political outlooks in this country were formed by joe strummer, jerry dammers and bob marley, than by any more serious commentator. which goes a long way to explaining a lot of things.

She does make a good point though. You're being a wee bit off hand narrowing the comment down to scottishness alone. Tell me when the last bunch of clowns that 'governed' [outwith the scottish parliament] werent a bunch of lying self grandising ****s, did I mention lying? and who werent labour or tory.
