A spokesman said: "This step has been taken as this is a word that members of our audience would find offensive." I once heard this being played as part of a compilation of Christmas tunes in Debehams, Glasgow. Obviously, someone had been paying attention to the words because it stopped abruptly at the point metioned above.

As for the song might I suggest the word faggot is being taken out of context so Radio 1 is wrong? Being sung, originally by a male and a female, who in the song are lovers the word faggot canny really mean 'gay' unless of course they were in a wider relationship not included in the song but I think that's going too far.
