Sheridan charged in perjury probe
Lothian and Borders Police
Lothian and Borders Police have been carrying out a perjury inquiry
Former socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan has been charged with perjury in connection with a police inquiry, his solicitor has confirmed.

The investigation came following Mr Sheridan's defamation case against the News of the World.

Mr Sheridan, 43, had earlier been detined in Edinburgh and a search of his Glasgow house carried out.

His lawyer, Aamer Anwar, confirmed to BBC Scotland that he had been charged with perjury but would be released.

Never been particularly convinced of Sheridan's innocence but wouldn't be surprised if there was some conspiracy either. These media moguls have far too much power and influence.

I enjoyed watching him shaft the Murdoch Press immensely. This was always going to happen. The Dirty Digger himself Murdoch was allegedly quoted as saying 'Get that little Commie bastard'.

Unfortunately for Tommy these people are not the sort who will take such a humiliation and admit they screwed up.
Witch hunt? Possibly or possibly he is a pathogical liar but I'd hazard a guess that The Sun/NOTW have lied and deceived more over the last 10 years than Tommy Sheridan ever did.

I worked on schemes he was involved with so I had some experience of what he was like as a Councillor. I have to say he was hard working, conscientious and intelligent. He was one of the best that I had experience of and anyone should be happy to be represented by him. I think this whole mess is highly regrettable as he has a lot to offer.

Agreed. It was hardly a hanging offence he was accused of in the first place, albeit a marriage-threatening one and politically damaging. How the knives can be so out for Sheridan over this, and in favour of Murdoch and TNOTW and other tabloid rodents like them is beyond me. Perhaps says more in general about people's political stance/party politics than anything else.

Considering the last case he was involved in, what's the chances he actually gets convicted?!? If he turns it into the veracity of the press and their sources, then I hope he calls as witnesses everyone that has been shafted by the Murdoch press and hasn't had the money to sue them...

FWIW I consider Sheridan to be a complete knob, who after doing a lot of work to build up a left wing presence in Holyrood was willing to throw that out the window for the sake of his own ego.

I pretty much agree with that but if it's about honour, personal integrity and lies, and people want him in jail for that, then I would suggest he should be joined by Murdoch and his cronies who should be on a far longer stint at her majesty's pleasure.
