The campaigning for peace that Yoko Ono did with John Lennon makes as much sense now as it did back then. And its still the best Xmas single of all time. Yoko Ono's an easy target for the rightwing nutjobs and Paul McCartney fans (same thing?) but she's okay in my book.

I can remember going into my form class at school and being told Lennon had been shot dead the night before. It was wall to wall Beatles that night on the telly. They were an incredible band.

FWIW I thought he was a very good songwriter with the Beatles, but overrated as a solo performer. Only Working Class Hero hit the spot with me in his post Beatles days, although Woman was a nice song on his last album. Imagine is a dirge, and I think the lyrics are pie in the sky sixth form stuff.

How is he a wifebeater. Are you getting him confused with Lonnie Donegan or James Taylor.....or Sean Connery?

I don't mind Imagine although its a bit over played. In the USA they change the words from "and no religion too" to "and one religion too."

Have you got any evidence of that as it's quite a serious allegation really? I don't recall him ever being charged with domestic violence.

FWIW I think Lennon produced a body of solo far superior to any other Beatle and in less time. Imagine is still a lovely tune (and a good album) for me although played to death and I take the point that has been made about the lyrics being a bit over the top. My personal favourite is probably Jealous Guy but there are slightly less well-known numbers like Watching the Wheels which are also very good.
