Wendy Alexander...time to go

This is simple.

You broke the law and there is prima facie evidence that you lied.

You have to do the honourable thing. You know that is the right thing to do.

You are a person of dignity and self-respect, much of which comes from your father a man of the cloth.

Do not hang on because figures in London Labour say you should.

Do the honourable thing and restore some credibilty to the tarnished world of labour politics.

I suspect she will quit. That will indeed make it very difficult for Brown to retain the deputy he didn't want...

We are in unchartered territory and unlike cash for honours it is clear both at Holyrood and Westminster that crimes have been committed.

How far does this go and how many casualties will there be?

Obviously from a Holyrood position, Alexander, McCabe and Gordon are all on a sticky wicket.

This is not going to go away and obviously for the good of all the electoral commisssion and the police must execute their responsabilities quickly.

Of courss Labour are the big losers out of this but it also gives politicans a bad name overall. That is why IMO Wendy should go quickly to help restore trust in politicans.

I agree with a lot of that.

However, we're not talking of wads in brown paper bags being exchanged for asking questions. All political parties are under huge pressures to raise finance for the political arms race.

All political parties are IMO guilty as charged when it comes to questionable dealings in this respect.

Interesting to note just how many SNP donors have been in Charlotte Square the First Ministers residence since May to be wined & dined at the Scottish taxpayers expense for example..

If I stole £950 of clothes from a shop, then claimed it was OK because my 'advisors' told me I was allowed to, would I be 'fine and dandy'? Of course I wouldn't. She commited a crime. She must resign IMO.

You would be sacked one would think and pronto to. This brings shame on the labour party and the shame deapens by the day. What a message to send to the country.

Just as well she is not in office.............and never will be.

Kenny you cannot link the two things. The first is a clear case of breaking the law, the second, well let's pit it this way I would not have done that but it is a world apart from what Wendy has done.

As you know I was an ex SNP Treasurer and I can tell you that all my senior colleagues were aware of the law. I do not believe for one minute there was a senior figure in labour who does not understand the leagal situation on such matters.

I would much prefer Wendy to resign. Harriet Harman too. Even better Brown to sack them and everyone else involved in this. It's unacceptable. Unless Brown acts this could bring him down...

Agreed. Although he can't "officially" sack Wendy. I do agree though that resignations now probably put a lid on the situation. Digging in and waiting for what the electoral commission and/or the police come out with runs the risk that events will control them rather than them controlling events.

I think Wendy Alexanders needs to resign rather than be sacked. It would have the same effect of course in that it would remove her from the firing line and whilst firing her would show that GB isnt prepared to put up with these antics, her resigning may have the effect of dampening this down "she did something wrong and she has decided to fall on her sword rather than to drag down the party" sort of style. However, this has wider implications as you saay Harriet Harmon is already involved and may have to go down the same route as Wendy. The last thing labour needs is a house of cards tumbling down around them.

Wendy won't resign.

She is incapable of doing any wrong. In her own view.

If Wendy goes over a few hundred quid........ and a principle..........

That puts Uncle Gordon in the crosshairs.

She will stick it out...........

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.

Re: Wendy Alexander...time to go

I seen her big adamant puss on the news tonight.

'What a crowd!' she proclaimed at the gathered press pack waiting on her statement.

Eh, yes dear, you are an MSP who has broken the law, we the public are slightly interested
