WTF? (part 543)
From good auld BBC Online NI...
Fair enough it shouldn't have happened. But 'outcry' and 'disgrace'?? By feck, we're all getting more precious by the day. Outcry over 11-plus ringing phone Pupils at Portstewart Primary School may sit their second 11-plus paper again, after an invigilator's mobile phone rang five times during the exam. Parents were sent letters offering the option to re-sit last Friday's hour-long transfer test if they felt their child was disadvantaged. The North Eastern Education and Library Board said the supervisor regretted the incident. Parent Rosalyn Lundy said her daughter Kristen was very distressed. "I think it's disgraceful," she said. "I was livid, because the school gave them their dues, they had done everything in their power to ensure the children were doing the test in an appropriate situation, and then this happens." The education and library board told the BBC's Talkback programme that parents could sit a supplementary test or claim special circumstances in their school transfer application. More than 15,750 children aged 10 and 11 sat the English, Maths and Science tests, which will determine the sort of secondary school they attend.
