Parking Tickets

I have two parking tickets that have been handed over to a debt collection agency. They have just written to me telling me that Northampton County Court will issue a summons and it will be handed over to the bailifs for collection.

Anyone know if an english court can do this for an Edinburgh address? Do counties in England actually do this or parking tickets? I've never heard of anyone being taken to court or having a warrant sale over parking ticke, should I pay them? (£120 each).

Any sound advice would be appreciated.

I think you would be tried within the jurisdiction where the offence took place. In other words, yep they can. Whether they would go as far as court is debatable but, wouldnt it be easier just to make them a payment offer and see where it goes?

I've had a few of these in my time, ignored them and never got taken to Court or 'owt like that. You will continue to be hassled by the Debt Collection Agency though

I ended up paying them like £40 a month for about 4 x £120 tickets. If you can handle the hassle you can probably get away with never paying them.

Not sure if this counts as sound advice....

Re: Parking Tickets

Someone will know better than me, but IIRC, as long as you make an offer to pay them something back on a weekly basis, they can't or wont take you to court.

For example, if you say to them; "i'll pay you £10 a week for 24 weeks", then they wont take you to Court. I think you will have to pay it eventually though,

Re: Parking Tickets

I was pursued by a private debt collecting agency for a parking ticket too.

I wrote to them and explained that although the car was registered in my name, it was my wife who was driving at the time of the offence. I pointed out that she was blonde and a bit simple and not only had she failed to notice the big 'pay here' sign, she thought the ticket on the windscreen was an advert for something and threw it away.

They dropped the matter and I paid nothing.
:YAYYY:

I recommend that you try this tactic.

Mind you, you may have to explain why my wife had your car in Northampton.

For the avoidance of doubt, anything stated in the above post is written without prejudice; is probably completely uninformed opinion, and possibly just a figment of my imagination. Readers should either ignore, treat with contempt, or simply accept the spirit it is written in, without recourse to huffy replies, legal action or threats of violence.
That includes YOU.
