Scottish Parliament Wets

An on-site water bottling operation at Holyrood is being planned by Scottish Parliament bosses.

MSPs were told that up to 600 bottles of mineral water are consumed every week during Holyrood business.

Concerns over the environmental impact have led to a new service being considered which would see filtered tap water bottled at the building.

Important issues but shouldn't there be a spring under the building that fed the brewery that once sat there?

Maybe they could fill their jugs from the ponds outside that everyone keeps falling into.

Re: Scottish Parliament Wets

Which makes more sense, environmentally and generally?

1) Bringing water form other parts of Scotland and beyond to bottling plants, using loads of plastic to bottle the stuff then transporting it to a distribution centre and ultimately to the parliament. Finally attempting to get back the bottles to be recycled, missing 40% of them.

2) Taking the water from the tap, filter and bottle it on site using reusable glass bottles which are cleaned on site to be reused.

I have to admit to being constantly amazed that in this country we make such a song and dance about small, common sense changes like this.

Quite a few companies do this now. You get to put your company ID on the re-usable glass bottles too. As long as its cold and fizzy, there's not much difference (unless it comes out of a tap in some parts of London - then its minging.)
